Celtics-Magic preview: Starting a new streak?

http://www.csnne.com/boston-celtics/celtics-magic-preview-celtics-starting-new-streak

BOSTON – There was an unusually high level of exuberance inside the Celtics’ locker room after Sunday’s 120-105 victory at Philadelphia.

This is the Sixers, fellas, a team that has become synonymous with Tank-a-Palooza and any other descriptive term you can come up with in reference to cataclysmically bad teams.

If you are a playoff-caliber team like the Celtics, beating Philly should be a given right?

Not after having lost four in a row, which not only brought about a drop in the Celtics’ record but also a noticeable dip in their confidence, swagger – their joy – that was present earlier regardless of the game’s outcome.

Still, it seems Sunday’s win has re-energized Boston (40-30) and provided a boost of confidence which the Celtics hope will serve them well tonight against the Orlando Magic.

“I feel it’s a game that’ll give us confidence for [tonight’s game],” Celtics guard Avery Bradley told reporters following Sunday’s win. “It will carry over. I’m not gonna say hopefully it does. I’m gonna speak it into existence; it will carry over.”

As Bradley continued to speak about Sunday’s victory, which gave Boston as many wins now as they had last season – and still with 12 games to play – you could hear and see the players laughing, joking, the kind of response you’d expect after beating Golden State or San Antonio.

But Philadelphia?

“You see everybody in here’s smiling, laughing,” Bradley said. “We needed this.”

It was a game that served as a reminder of what can happen when the Celtics establish their brand of basketball, which includes solid defense, balanced scoring and excellent ball movement.

All of those will come into play if they are to knock off the Magic, who are coming off a 105-100 loss to Toronto, their third loss in a row and fourth in the past five games.

Boston’s best shot at victory will be to keep the game as low scoring as possible. When Orlando scores less than 100 points, they are 5-22 this season.

The Celtics must also get out in transition as much as possible. Boston averages 15.6 fast-break points per game, which ranks sixth in the NBA. They face a Magic team which allows 13.4 fast-break points per game, which ranks 20th in the league.

More than anything else, the Celtics have to do what they do best, which is compete until the very end regardless of the opponent.

And Sunday’s win over the Sixers was certainly a step in the right direction.

“We still had some lulls in the game when we didn’t play well,” Celtics guard Isaiah Thomas told reporters. “For the most part, we got a little bit of confidence back and got close to Boston Celtics basketball.”

Two pieces of good news.

1. Nick Vucevic isn't playing.

2. Orlando played in Toronto last night. So we are both on the 2nd game of a back-to-back.

I expect a very uptempo game from them. They need to win without the 18ppg Vucevic being a go-to guy in the half court.

Evening everyone,

Looks like we've got some of our mojo back. (Is mojo a word? I've been in living in Europe too long).

Kelly being aggressive. He's shooting. He made a good move to bump and grind his way for a layup, which he missed, but then got the traffic o board and Smart missed the kick out 3.
