Celtics-Suns Preview: Here come the Suns

http://www.csnne.com/boston-celtics/celtics-suns-preview-here-come-suns

There’s no such thing as an easy win this time of year. Regardless of whether you are at the top of the NBA standings or trolling among the lottery-bound, there’s always something of great value at stake this time of year.

And that makes tonight’s game at Phoenix anything but a given victory for Boston (42-30) which comes in having won three in a row.

The Suns (20-52) will fail to make the playoffs for the sixth straight season, and are very much a team rebuilding. They fired head coach Jeff Hornacek earlier this season. Most of their top players, such as Celtics All-Star Isaiah Thomas, Goran Dragic and the Morris (Markieff and Marcus) twins, have been moved on for future assets.

“But this is the NBA,” Amir Johnson told CSNNE.com recently. “You can’t take any team or any players for granted.”

Here are five keys that will decide if the Celtics will extend their winning streak to four in a row.

5. Live at the line

Boston has had its ups and downs this season when it comes to getting to the free throw line. That should not be an issue tonight, not with the Suns allowing 26.8 free throw attempts per game, which ranks 29th in the NBA and just barely more than the Boston Celtics.

4. Limit the Phoenix fast break

Very little has gone the way of the Suns this season, but getting out to score in transition has been one of their strengths. Phoenix comes into tonight’s game averaging 14.6 fast-break points per game, which ranks 7th in the NBA.

3. Shoot the 3-ball well

Lots of problems for Phoenix defensively, but few stand out more than their inability to defend opponents behind the 3-point line. The Suns’ opponents are shooting a league-high 38.4 percent from 3-point range.

2. Slow start for the Suns

Getting off to a fast start will go far in Boston’s quest to win, and the Suns are likely to do their part in contributing. Phoenix averages 23.1 points in the first quarter of games this season, which ranks 29th in the NBA.

1. Avery Bradley

He was unable to make the trip out with the team due to being ill, but team officials list him as questionable for Saturday’s game against the Suns.

Without Bradley, the Celtics will not only be without their best perimeter defender but also Bradley’s career-high 15.1 points per game.

I won't be on the Game On thread today, although I will be checking in.

Normally I would be rooting for the Suns to win, to drive Brooklyn further into the basement, but not tonight. We are in a dog fight for playoff seeding and every win is important.

Go Celtics!!

I'm going to try to be on as long as I can.

In other news, the Nets won.

Bradley was hooked up to an IV yesterday for dehydration and "stomach issues".

He's starting tonight.

Tough kid.

If he starts shooting 25% from 3, and takes a ton of them anyway, then yeah, he probably will.

If Sully can't bullmoose Teletovic then he needs to lay off the oreos. Len is out with 2 and Tyson Chandler isn't playing.

Good evening all. Seems that stomach bug is making its way thru the team. Sully spent time in hospital, Rozier had stomach issues the other night and both Crowder and IT had problems. It is every where around here

For a guy who plays with a chip on his shoulder, this game must be the type of game IT lives for. Playing against the team that traded him.
