It's no secret the Boston Celtics have collected enough trade assets to dream about acquiring any top player who hits the market. A few of those trade assets are currently developing out of the NBA, but the Sporting News' Sean Deveney noted Wednesday that the Celtics' draft-and-stash players -- especially Ante Zizic and Guerschon Yabusele -- have impressed rival executives.
The highlights of Deveney's piece (for Celtics fans, at least):
1. One general manager told Deveney that Zizic would "almost certainly be a lottery pick in this draft, maybe Top 10, even though this is a deeper draft than last year. He would be better than a draft pick, really, because you can see what you're getting."
If he were in the draft, he would be better than a draft pick! I'm not sure that even makes sense but it sounds exciting!
The Ringer's Kevin O'Connor gave me a slightly lower range for Zizic, but still thinks the big man looks ready to contribute at the NBA level.
2. An international scout told Deveney that Yabusele is "built sort of like Jae Crowder" but with "more offensive potential."
Let's probably calm down on that a little bit, since Crowder is threatening to complete a 50-40-90 season and has turned himself into a quality NBA starter. But sure, maybe Yabusele can develop more off-the-dribble creativity than his potential future teammate. Either way, the scout said Yabusele "will be a very solid NBA player."
Cool.
3. Deveney reported that Zizic and Yabusele are drawing attention from other teams heading into the trade deadline. Guess what, other teams? You can't have them. (But maybe you can in the right deal.)

MY NOTE: Remember how we all sorta looked around on draft day to see if everybody else thought Danny had lost his mind?

What Danny did has never been done before in the history of the NBA.
I cannot recall any year where two first round picks where stashed away. And lets us not forget that he also packaged 2 first rounders for a future # 1.
If Celtics fans can just be a little more patient they will witness an era of Celtics basketball that will be remarkable.
