Join our Game On! Contest!!

Guess how many points it will take to win this game.

In other words, estimate how many points the LOSING team will score, add 1 to that number, and submit the result.

The winning contest figure must be higher than the losing team's score.

Post your entry on this thread before the Fourth quarter begins.

We'll be running this contest on almost every Game On! thread this season. And I'll keep track of how many "wins" each poster accumulates over time.

• One prize for most "wins" by Christmas Day

First Round Winner!!:  cheers

(15) BobC

Followed by:

(5) gyso

Celtics vs. Pacers preview: Boston seeking consistency as season closes

http://www.csnne.com/boston-celtics/boston-celtics-vs-indiana-pacers-preview-boston-seeking-consistency-season-closes

BOSTON -- At this point in the NBA season, playoff-bound teams like the Boston Celtics are a bit more serious about their craft, attacking games with a more consistent, business-like approach.

But as we’ve seen from time to time (at Philadelphia most recently), this Celtics team can play a “cool breeze” brand of basketball that’s void of the kind of intensity and attention to detail that’s required to win at the highest level.

And Celtics head coach Brad Stevens -- no surprise here -- doesn’t like it one bit.

“The thing that has probably bothered me about our play of recent is that we just have too many moments of casual basketball,” Stevens said. “And that’s going to get you beat on more times than not. We’ve got to correct those moments.”

They will have another opportunity to do that tonight against the Indiana Pacers, looking to be a bit more business than casual with their play.

In their 105-99 loss at Philadelphia on Sunday, Boston led by 13 points in the third quarter before faltering.

Flashback to Boston's 116-102 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on March 6, the Celtics led by 13 points in the third quarter of that game as well.

“We’re trying to figure it out; we got 11 games to figure it out,” said Boston’s Jae Crowder. “For some reason, we build a lead and teams start to play more aggressive and we start to get more relaxed. We gotta figure it out.”

This will be the third and final regular season matchup between these two teams, although the Celtics (45-26) have already won the head-to-head series with wins in each of the first two meetings.

But this game still has great value for both teams.

Boston has the second-best record in the Eastern Conference and is trying to keep pace with the East-leading Cleveland Cavaliers who lead the Celtics by 2.0 games. The Pacers have alternated wins and losses since the All-Star break which has kept them from gaining any real ground in the East.

They come into tonight’s game with the sixth-best record in the East, just 1.0 game behind the Atlanta Hawks for the No. 5 spot and 1.5 games ahead of Miami and Milwaukee which currently occupy the 7th and 8th spots, respectively.

A big part of Indiana’s success is the play of Paul George, a prime target of the Boston Celtics at the trade deadline.

With the deadline passing and George still a Pacer, he can now focus on just playing the game.

“At this point, I can’t afford to have games where I’m not on my 'A' game or not 100 percent,” George told the Indy Star recently.

Pacers guard Monta Ellis added, “We need him. When you go through the situation that he went through with all the trade talks and him being in demand, it kind of gets to you a little bit. I’ve been in that situation before and all that I tell him is it’s a part of the business. That’s over with, he’s still here and he’s got to go out and play like he’s been playing before that time. I think he’s just getting back on that track and he put that behind him.”

What was different with Gerald's hair? When they came to Charlotte earlier in the season, he had a shamrock wove into it.

Mike and Tommy saying that Lavoie Allen has bounced around, not really. Sixers and now the Pacers. I remember when they traded for him I thought it was such a good trade. Am I missing a team??

It was all teased out and standing straight up, I would have sworn it looked at least as if he had 5 times the hair he did a day or two ago.

3 rebounds in 1 minute. Pretty good for Lavoy Allen. Fortunately, all those rebounds only produced 2 points.

That might be the best defense on a shot by Al Jefferson in the paint. Ever.

GREAT block by Zeller.
