Post Game Thread - vs Charlotte Hornets, Away
Up 19, they rallied and catch us to go up 7 or 8 and then we rallied back to win by 7. NOT pretty. When our 19 point lead all but evaporated Brad told them, in the huddle, "there will be playoff games like this. Find a way to win." And we did. So that is a very positive thing. He challenged them, they responded AND they responded effectively.
I thought we looked fatigued. IT, in particular, looked tired. His legs were giving out on him when earlier in the year they wouldn't have on the same play. Sleepwalking or not, he still scored 32 on 10-18 and 5-11 from 3. 9 points with 2-4 from 3 in the 4th. He is unreal.
Kelly started in place of Amir, who had that damn stomach bug. 13 points and 11 boards, 4 assists and 0 TOs for Kelly. Not bad. He fouled out. Not good. Some of them were bogus calls, some were dumb fouls.
6 Celtics in double figures, all 5 starters and Jaylen. Smart and Jerebko with 9 each, so almost 8 players in double figures and that's excellent. 30 points from the bench and that's with one bench player gone because he started. Unfortunately, Smart's 9 points came on 2-8. There were a couple of shots where he was obviously expecting a whistle and just threw it towards the rim. No whistle, just another Smart missed fga.
We shot 51%, so that's something we've been badly missing the past week or two. They shot 45%, which isn't bad defense except that they took 32 fgas and hit 29. That's why the game was even this close. Tons of ftas and hitting league leading 91% on them.
Our Magic Number, to secure the 2nd seed, is 1 over both Washington and Toronto (Washington is playing right now. If they lose then we're safe from them but not from Toronto). Both Toronto and Washington own the tiebreakers against us. We play Brooklyn, who beat Chicago today (Thank Goodness that Magic Number has been already taken care of), and Milwaukee. The way Brooklyn has been closing out the season neither of those games will be easy even though they will both be in Boston. Toronto plays NYK on Sunday and then finish the season in Cleveland. Washington is playing Miami now in Washington and then @ Miami. So, pretty easy schedule for Washington, not quite so easy for Toronto and I'm worried about Brooklyn. They have been playing very good ball since the All-Star break. Milwaukee we know about. We do NOT want to drop to 3rd and play them in the first round.

When their coach got the second tech and got thrown out of the game, Janie asked me why did he do that? I told her that sometimes coaches do that to motivate their players since nothing else is working.
It seemed to work.
Luckily, we decided to play DEFENSE at the end. Smart did his usual "rip the ball out of someone's hands". The frigging refs tried their best to keep it close, they kept giving them three fritos. Really? Three times?
We created a convert. My sister-in-law went. Pregame, she said that she didn't care that much for basketball. Now she can't wait for the next game.
We won. It didn't look good for a while, but we turned it around in time. After the last two games, we really needed this one in the W column.

This was a stop the bleeding win.
We have two magic numbers. To win the East it is 4. We win last two games and Cleveland losses their last two games. Improbable but not impossible.
This season has flown by.

For anybody who bashes Marcus Smarts flaws, and I have....be thankful we didn't draft Kidd Gillchrist.

I had to stop watching when we were losing 104 to 97. Missed all the good stuff. I am no BB tactician , but I`m getting the impression that teams have adjusted to our tight perimeter defense by attacking the paint with impunity. Can we adjust to their adjustment or have I got it wrong? Will nour shooting hold up in the playoffs? It had better.
