Abdel Nader Named D-League Rookie of the Year Empty Abdel Nader Named D-League Rookie of the Year

I posted this on the Yabby thread, as part of the D-league playoff coverage, but I decided this was big enough to justify its own thread.  Being a D-League All-Star, like Mickey was (and Nader), shows promise but being ROY or MVP or Scoring Leader or some distinction like that really sets you apart.  It means that of all the players that qualify for that group you are the best, not just one of the best.

This is just D-League but it is looking like Danny convincing Nader to forgo Europe and more money for a year in Maine working and learning Brad Stevens' playbook, is going to pay off for him and, hopefully, for us too.  Great sales job, Danny, Great year Abdel and I am looking forward to seeing him in summer league and camp.

He averaged 21.3ppg, 6.2rpg during the D-League regular season, in 33.5mpg.  In the 3 playoff games so far he is averaging 22.7ppg, 5.7rpg in 40mpg.  However, he averaged 3.9 assists and 3.7 TOs per game regular season (1.05 assists/TO) and is averaging 5.7 assists and 2.7 TOs per game in the playoffs (2.1 assists/TO).  So he scoring and rebounds/minute might be a bit off but his floor generalship and efficiency is way up.  A lot more assists, a lot more assists/minute but fewer TOs and fewer TOs/minute. That's all good stuff right there.

Also, at 6'8", 225# he has an NBA body. By comparison, Jaylen Brown is 6'7", 225#, and Jaylen has an NBA-ready body. Starting SF Trevor Ariza, 6'8", 215#.

man I hate when teams/players lie about their true size.

I doubt he's picked up 2" this year in Maine. but he sure does have a nice wingspan that might help him become a solid defender.

trouble is his play in Maine may mean Danny has to give him guaranteed money next year. I think he would be worth keeping on the roster in place of young anyway.
