New NBA 3 point record
Pau Gasol has set the single season record for 3pt fg percentage at 53.8%.
This was the 9th time in NBA history that a player has shot over 50% in a season.
Steve Kerr did it 3 times.
The previous record was 53.6% by Kyle Korver.

TJ,
Very impressive, especially for a big. He has adapted quite well to the new NBA that requires bigs to be floor stretchers. He was always an excellent shooter but he has certainly extended his range.
Pau averaged 1.6 3pt fgas/game.
Kerr actually did it 4x, not 3. He averaged 1.8, 2.1, 1.0 and 2.9 3pt fgas/game. Korver took 2.1 3pt fgas/game that season.
It's not reasonable to expect a 7'er to take as many 3pt fgas as guards/swings but he did take fewer. In 2 of Kerr's seasons he played all 82 games, so his fgas/game were over a lot of games. Pau played 64 this year.
I'm not putting Pau down, that's quite an impressive new trick for an old dog, I'm just pointing out that Kerr took a lot more shots, total, and still shot over 50%.
7'ers shooting 50% from 3. This ain't your grandpa's NBA anymore.

Kerr did do it 4 times but in one season he only played in 32 games and did not qualify for the 3pt title.
Kerr was an all-time great shooter even though he was an average player at best.
The last (3) 3pt percentage champs are Pau Gasol, Troy Daniels and Luke Babbitt.
Those aren't the names we think of when discussing great 3pt shooters.

Re: New NBA 3 point record
Not so sure that it is a record - the way I read it is that there is a munimum requirement of 82 made 3 pointers. Pau has 56 for the year.

I think you might be right Swish.
Below, are the NBA statistical requirements and then the ESPN leaders.
I am not sure why Pau is listed on ESPN as a qualified leader.

OK, this thread is invalid.
Here's the leaders on NBA.com.
Pau did not qualify since he didn't make 82 3 pointers.
Thanks for the clarification swish.
