GAME 7 WILL DEFINE THE ROSTER OF THE FUTURE
This is a big game for many reasons:
> We win................we move on to play in the Eastern Finals and a chance to get to the BIG DANCE and title #18
> We lose...........we start making tee times for golf and summer vacation reservations
> We lose...............and Danny has but no choice but to start making some bold roster spot moves. It is possible that many of the seasoned vets on the team - Bradley, Crowder, KO, Smart, and IT may be thrown into the mix of trades to bring another level of skill in a player like George or Butler, and some free agents who can shoot the ball.
If we get #1 pick via tomorrow selection process on ESPN Danny will keep it and select Fultz making IT expendable. I love IT and his heart and skills, but Washington has exposed his weaknesses which will continue to be exploited by who ever we play. He is just too short for today's NBA player and we get killed on defense on switch offs. I think Fultz and Rozier could be a great back court for us in the future.
If we win, Danny could be talked into keeping and resigning certain players up for free agency for the right price.
Tonight will tell the tale of the future direction of the Celtics.

112288,
I think your reason #3 "....Danny has no choice..." is more of an emotional response.
On practical side, IMO, whether we win or loose tonight DA will be doing some changes in the roster. I think the team as it currently constructed has reached its ceiling - DA has to move it to the next level. I would argue this next level is the actual contender level. What has to be done for that - it's a separate subject.

Changes are coming regardless of the outcome of game 7 and the complete body of work should be used to determine who goes and who stays.
At this point and into the not too distant future Boston looks like overstocked.com

dboss,
Agree (again).
I would say the overstocked part is the backcourt. That is, in the sense of players who can or should play significant minutes.
Regards

The grass always looks greener. George hasn`t made a final minute game winning shot in his NBA career. As Casey Stengel said, " you could look it up." IT is the same player he was when the playoffs started ; same strengths-- same weaknesses .The notion that after all this time Washington has " exposed his weaknesses" seems absurd to me. They never saw him play before? Maybe just a modicum of consideration should be given to the fact that he has played through his sister`s death , funeral, and ten hours of dental surgery. I`m not saying he is above criticism , or even that he shouldn`t , given the right offer, be traded, but to casually dismiss him as having been exposed coupled with the apparent assumption that a guy who hasn`t played a minute in the NBA makes Thomas "expendable" raises my hackles. Fultz isn`t Magic Johnson, for crying out loud.

Change is coming next year and it starts with Zizic and Yabusele being on the roster. Perhaps Nader will get a chance and earn a spot as well. If we get the #1 pick and its Fultz there is no need to throw him in to the starting lineup just because he is the top pick. He earns his way like everyone else.
Trades are always a possibility but the need to get something done isn't here yet even though we all would love to see something happen. IT was exposed in the Atlanta series last year. It's tough to commit to playing him that way so it doesn't happen in the regular season. But in a playoff series it is much easier. That's the bad news. The good news is that they are starting to figure out how to have others step up so we don't have to put IT in the position of Hero Baller. Using Al as point center takes a lot of the pressure off players like IT, AB and MS to get the distribution done since he is such a good passer.
IT and his contract remain out best trading chip. Bradley would come next and both could be a part of a sign and trade. But the best option probably involves rolling the dice with this years core and the additions on the books and see what happens.

Dude averages nearly 30 points a game this season and hes too short? Yes he can be a liability on defense at times but there are several players in this league 6-5 and above who cannot defend as well as IT.112288 wrote:This is a big game for many reasons:

Plus 1. Well said. That number, 5'9", seems to distort the way IT is perceived. There are verfy few more efficient/productive players in the league, as indicated by his high PER.

Hey Guys,
Tell the rest of the announcers and analysts that. Even Scal said the same thing. They mask his defensive weakness by double coverage of his man which causes a weakness on the weak side and additional rebounding due to one of our guys moving to the strong side.

Re: GAME 7 WILL DEFINE THE ROSTER OF THE FUTURE
I don't think our landing Fultz means IT departs.
A backcourt of IT and Fultz could be incredible. Pick a couple more guards from Bradley, Smart or Rozier to come off the bench, and you have a championship level backcourt. Thomas and Fultz have espoused the idea of playing together, we just need one thing to happen to make it possible.

We don`t need Scal to correct our lying eyes. The rest of the announcers and analysts seem to have a pretty good impression of IT. Sorry some of you guys would rather kvetch about his weaknesses than appreciate his brilliance.Yes, his height is a disadvantage, but he is still great. I`ll take 29 and 12 and not disappearing in the 4th quarter the way the sainted John Wall did any day.

The coach and his teammates seem to have a pretty high opinion of him too.

Salary cap is not an issue.
Isaiah Thomas is an impact player.
He's now the face of the Boston Celtics.
You don't have to use the salary cap as an excuse because if you did some research, Ainge has done a good job managing the salary cap.
