Yes Bob, let's hope LAC can be the 15th worst team in the NBA 2 years from now.

The Clippers are still young enough to be competitive. They do need to bring in an understudy for Paul. I di not see Griffin or Paul leaving. However their paychecks will create cap issues down the road.
Doc inherited a talented team and he has not been able to get them to the next level.
The missing piece is SF.

I don't think Redick is a $20+M player which is what would be needed to make that trade work for salary purposes.

Redick for 15 and then Wes Johson, then. It's very doable if both sides want to get it done

The Clippers salary for Anthony, Paul, Jordan, Griffin, Rivers and Crawford could be $135m just for those 6 players.
If Paul or Griffin move on, they could afford Carmelo, but why bother?
They aren't going to beat GS anyway.
The Clippers have too many salary cap issues to afford an aging Carmelo.

What about Phil. He will want more value. If the Clippers went after Carmelo they would have to let one of their big three go
You still have to have room to retain a full roster of players.
They do not have the assets to resign Paul and Griffin, keep Jordan and makes a trade gor Melo.

Re: some trade thoughts for that #1 pick (HORRORS!)
According to some league executives, the only deal that makes sense for both sides is packaging Redick, combo guard Austin Rivers and adding wing man Wesley Johnson for financial purposes in exchange for Anthony and perhaps one of the Knicks’ two second-round picks in next month’s draft. At the trade deadline, the Clippers’ offer of Rivers and 37-year-old Jamal Crawford was turned down by the Knicks.
It can be done, creating a Big 4. This was not my idea, I read it.

Re: some trade thoughts for that #1 pick (HORRORS!)
The math could work. Redick is reportedly seeking at least $16 million per year, meaning he’d fall into the base-compensation territory because of his mammoth raise. Hence, his salary would count in sign-and-trade mathematics at only half.
If the Knicks start Redick at $16 million, adding Rivers ($11.8 million) and taking on Johnson’s contract ($5.8 million), the aggregate in cap math is about $26 million. That’s within the fudge factor of Anthony’s 2017-18 pact plus trade kicker ($30 million).
If Phil really wants to get rid of him, which I never believed, then this is how to do it, and the Clips make perfect sense.
It CAN be done!

Rubio, Redick, Rivers, Lee, Porzingas and the #8 pick is not better than what they have now?
I'm assuming they go all in for Rubio, and let Rose walk.

If I am NY, I am not making this trade.
Redick is a nice player on a contending team.
Redick, Rivers and Johnson are not going to move the needle for the Knicks.
There will be better trades out there for Carmelo, without NY having to take back 2-4 years of contracts for average players.

If the Knicks can get Rubio, they can get him while keeping Carmelo.
Ultimately, it looks like Carmelo will be traded.
Phil has pretty much sealed his fate as a former Knick.
This Clippers deal is ugly for New York.
Carmelo is still a very good player.

Carmelo has a no trade clause, and I've read he may just stick it out in NY out of spite. There may be "better" deals for Carmelo out there, but he would still have to agree to be traded. LA is one of the places he said he'd agree to

I could see Carmelo wanting to play for the Clippers but I have not heard of any specific teams that he agreed to waive his no-trade for.

Re: some trade thoughts for that #1 pick (HORRORS!)
New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony would waive his no-trade clause if the front office made a deal with the Boston Celtics, according to Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe. It does not, however, sound as if a trade is imminent. The Celtics have the second-best record in the Eastern Conference, and the front office isn't necessarily convinced that Anthony would put them on another level.
But, I think he will stay in NY. LA La doesn't want to move

Carmelo and his wife no longer live together.
They are moving toward divorce.

Re: some trade thoughts for that #1 pick (HORRORS!)
I think this is getting off track here. Carmelo CAN be traded to the Clips, or anyone else. He WOULD waive his no trade clause if a deal suited him.
For the sake of his son, he may not want to move, though. I think we were talking about the Clips adding Carmelo. Some said they couldn't, but it has now been proven they can. The rest is moving the goal posts.
