a possible off-season with NO Big free agent signing.
while we wait for GS to dispatch with Clevelend and we scour the innerwebs for draft tidbits, my wind wanders (as usual). what happens if Hayward stay at Utah, Blake stays at LA and Even Millsap re-ups with Atlanta?
can we still have a successful off-season without any fireworks, or will the fan base be disappointed with another year of steady improvement?
one possible scenario, I keep coming back to is:
Danny makes the deal with Philly, trading the #1 pick (Fultz) for Okafor and the #3 pick.
This trade can not become official until the new NBA year starts after the draft, for cap reasons. We renounce the hold on Amir and Zellers $8M non guarantee second year to get us under the cap ($5M under with all other holds after the trade).
Danny has Philly draft Jackson at #3.
Okafor basically replaces Amir and we have him under his rookie year for two years. I will note his per 36 min total in his first two years are 20 pts, 8 reb, 1.5 blocks. certainly an upgrade in those numbers from the ghost of Amir last year. I am confident the coaching staff can improve his defense, like they have with Kelly.
Jackson replaces Young on the roster. anyone think that's not an upgrade?
Josh Hart -Villanova is our pick at #37.
Zeller is replaced on the roster with Zizic (rookie deal $1.6M?)
Mickey is cut (non guaranteed) and replaced with Yabusele (Rookie deal $2.4M?)
we still hold the rights to Kelly (RFA), Jerebko and Green.
we match any reasonable offer ($12M or less) for Kelly or let him sign his one year tender to hit UFA the following year.
Jerebko is re-signed on another one and one deal (first guaranteed, second year non) at $8M per.
Salary to start the year: about $97M or $5M BELOW the cap.
Starters:
Horford
Okafor
Crowder
Bradley
Thomas
Rotation:
6.Jaylen
7.Smart
8.Kelly
9.Rozier
10 J. Jackson
deep bench :
Jerebko
Zizic
Yabusle
Nader or Hart
D. Jackson
flexibility still in play to sign each and every player that will become FA's ,IT, Bradley, Smart (if Danny wnats) the following year AND keep all furture draft picks as well.

kdp,
Okafor is more than a replacement for Amir on offense. In fact, that is the best (only?) reason to get him. It isn't because of his rebounding, his rebounds/minute stat is worse than Kelly's (7.6/36mpg vs 8.4/36mpg). Imagine that, a center with worse rebounding/minute numbers than Kelly! It's not because of his versatility neither. He has awful assist and turnover numbers (1.8 ast/36 and 2.9 TO/36). He is a career 67.9% frito shooter. He took exactly zero 3pt fgas last year. Zero. Not he didn't hit any, he didn't even take one. So, when I was talking about an improvement on Amir's offense, I was not talking about spreading the floor, but compressing it. As far as pace-and-space goes he offers neither. His offensive rating is 101, not that great. His defensive rating is 110. That means the Sixers lose 9 points for every 100 possessions Jahlil Okafor is on the floor. That is a slight improvement from his rookie year though. In his rookie year his offensive rating was only 99, but his defensive rating was still 110. So, he upped his offensive contribution. Or maybe they just put him on the floor with better offensive players? Well, his points/36mpg this year did go down, so maybe it was the players around him.
Sorry, not a fan of Jah. Nah mon.
And I don't see Kelly getting $12M or less. He's a young, floor stretching big and that is the flavor-du-jour in the NBA now. I'm not saying he's worth it, but I'm betting that's what he'll get, between $12M - $14M. That might make him a key piece in a trade package, but someone will pay him.
Where do we get our shooter from? We need another shooter to take the heat off of IT.

Re: a possible off-season with NO Big free agent signing.
I assume Jaylen becomes the #2 SCORING threat next year. He can get his own shot and I expect him to step up big time next season.
I also think you are under estimating what Okafor can bring to a well coached team. but we likely may never know.

Re: a possible off-season with NO Big free agent signing.
I think Kelly will get 15-16 mill as an offer.
We won't know about Free Agents until July 1.
Not that I'm against the trade, but the draft is before that, so how will we know we struck out on free agents before the draft.
We could still sign a mid level FA, like Dedmon or JaMychal Green to help us with rebounding. Bogut and McGee may also be available.
I like Okafor, but I think Fultz may be too good to pass on for us right now.
Lastly, I have a feeling that Isaac would be his choice at 3, not Jackson. Jackson, IMO, is going to the lakers!

No to Okafor and no to KO. You guys are nuts. KO has had 4 years to earn a new contract and has failed
I said at the beginning if the year that I would hold off on any judgement and now the year is over and I am ready to cut him lose.
The only way I would keep him is if he signs his one year qualifying offer.

Re: a possible off-season with NO Big free agent signing.
Kelly would be hard to replace, given the draft is full of guards. If we can replace Kelly with someone as good or better, then fine.
I don't think Danny would trade for Okafor. Fultz is here next two days, let's see what they say about him. I think right now he's the guy.
