Ainge: 'Didn't find out anything I didn't already know' about Fultz

WALTHAM -- Danny Ainge has spent the past two days getting to know Markelle Fultz, viewed by many as the top prospect in this year’s NBA draft.

“I didn’t find anything that I didn’t already know,” Ainge said, adding it’s usually like that with most of the players Boston works out.

While the Celtics may be picking higher than they ever had (they have the number one overall pick for the first time in the modern draft era), Ainge is going to stick to “the process.”

“We’re not done,” Ainge said. “We’re still in the process. We still have other players to see; time will tell.”

While multiple league sources contacted this weekend indicated Fultz is still the likely top choice of the Celtics, other players to keep an eye on include Josh Jackson from Kansas; Jonathan Isaac from Florida State, and Jayson Tatum of Duke -- all projected among the top six prospects.

Boston has already seen a workout involving Isaac in Las Vegas earlier. In addition, the Celtics are reportedly set to bring in Dennis Smith Jr. for a workout this week.

While the workouts certainly give the Celtics coaching staff a chance to see how players work on specific skills, the time off the court is even more significant.

“It helps us get to know more,” Ainge said. “Sometimes it makes it harder, sometimes it makes it easier.”

For Fultz, getting to be around Ainge and head coach Brad Stevens gave him a better feel for what he might be in for if the Celtics do in fact select him with the top overall pick.

“They expect the best,” Fultz said. “I just learned some stuff . . . working harder. I already work hard, but [the Celtics coaching staff] just pushing me to the next level and making me the best player I can be.”

DA is doing his due diligence.

Next after meeting with TOP players he will focus on the 2nd round.

The Celtics have an excellent opportunity to get a steal in the second round.

dboss,

I agree.  This draft is that deep.  #37 could possibly even yield a roster player.

Regards

We need shooters and no doubt, he can shoot from beyond the arc...and everywhere else too.

A lot of speculation he goes undrafted. Post draft signee and summer league invite?

I recall seeing his info and I completely ignored him.

My focus has been on bigs now that the Fultz drafting seems most likely. I will however do a look see..
