Getting there and losing is a lot better than not getting there.
Getting there 7 years in a row in modern sports is incredible.

His outside game is supposedly improving rapidly and so is his body as shown in the link below.

http://ftw.usatoday.com/2017/05/lakers-julius-randle-trainer-body-transformation-workout-program-offseason-amoila-cesar-amazing-before-after-photos

I like Black, but I am not even sure the Lakers will pick up his $6.55m team option.
They don't really need him with Mozgov, Zubac, Randle and Nance.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Lakers drafted an athletic 4/5 with the #28 pick.

I am not sure those rumors are true about Clarkson.
I do think he has significant trade value as a combo guard.

Being excited about Julius Randle is like being excited about a Honda Civic.
The problem with that is you're going to race against a Corvette.

Best case scenario for Randle right now is a contributor off the bench for a championship team.

Julius Randle is only a starter on a lottery team.

Randle is like Marcus Smart.
They do some things well, some things, not so much.

Not really.

Randle's problem is his physical attributes.
He's undersized as a PF and he has short arms.

Smart's only problem is shooting.

Just like last year's playoffs, against the Hawks, Smart has won playoff games for the Celts.
This year it was Game 3 against the Cavs.

Smart will be an All-Star someday.

Randle has no chance of becoming and All-Star and it's not his fault.

Is there going to be an all-star game for bench players?

Randle is an excellent rebounder.
He's almost a double double machine.

When the Celts are contenders, Smart will be like Draymond Green.

Can't see Smart ever being an All Star.
Randle is good, but I doubt he'll ever be better.

The question I have is - IF the situation was reversed, and LAL had #6....would they have taken Smart or Randle? I think it would have been Smart all day long, I never believed a word Kupcake said on that one.

Marcus Smart is not even on of the best 10 guards in the Eastern Conference.
Fans voted him 26th in voting this past all-star game.
Besides his 3 years in the league, Marcus played 2 years of college.
He is what he is.
He's the worst outside shooter in the league, for a player that shoots many outside shots.
A very good defender, a tough player, a nice role player, maybe the 1st guard off the bench.
Definitely a guy you want on your team.

Anyway, both Jaylen Rose and Dicky V think the lakers should take Josh Jackson..................what to do with Ingram? How would Paul George fit in? And, of course, where does that leave LeBron, the subject of this thread??

they won't be picking anyone if they trade for George that pick would, go to Indiana in the trade.

I think IF the Lakers offer Indiana the #2 pick and Ingram, along with probably Deng to offset Georges salary, the Pacers would be foolish not to take it. it would set the pacers up with THREE potential young stars they control (Turner, Ingram and say Fox -#2 pick).

Lakers get George.

they renounce all FA's they have and don't pick up Blacks $6M non guaranteed deal and they have the space for Lebron. They may have to move Clarkson to get to $30M.

point is, it's possible IF the King wants to hit SHOWTIME.

wait for it....rumors should start to pick up soon now that the finals are over and the King saw just how far away his crew in Cleveland is now.

with ZERO cap space to help themselves ..........The King in showtime....I bet TJ is licking his chops already (if he is still reading this board).

always fun to have a Celtics/Lakers rivalry going on.

oh hell...I just realized James player option is in 2018 NOT this coming year.

never mind.

Smart takes too many contested shots. He needs to work on when to take a shot. He does need to improve on his shot, but has shown, for instance with his free throw shooting this year after starting extremely poorly, that he can perform well in a shooting function for a sustained period. The introduction of post play could also help him get better shots.

I have a friend who is a Laker fan who was posting on Facebook last night about how LeBron is going to LA as soon as the game was over last night.  Said LeBron sounded like he was outta Cleveland at his presser.  LeBron just lost the Finals and people think he's not going to sound disgusted and upset?  And if he is disgusted and upset he's going to end his streak of 7 straight Finals appearances by going to a team that hasn't made the playoffs in 4 years just because it's the Lakers?  Oh, and he thinks they're getting Paul George too.  LeBron and Paul George, on the same team....

Rolling Eyes

Hope springs eternal.

Yes, I guess he's "stuck" where he is for another year.
The lakers are going to wait it out, IMO. They should get George for nothing at season's end. Can't see James joining them, but I could see him joining the Clips after next year

Cow,

Love averaged 16ppg and 11.2 rpg in the Finals.  That is slightly off from his regular season numbers of 19ppg but solid vs his 11.1 rpg.  He shot 38.75 from 3 in the Finals, he averaged 37.3% from 3 regular season.

1.0 blks/game Finals vs .5 blks/game regular
2.2 stls/game Finals vs .9 stls/game regular

He had 2 bad shooting games, maybe 3, but he had two great games.  His ppg, fg%, rebounding and 3pt fg% are all up from last year's playoffs when Cleveland won the title.  And it's kind of hard to do much when the ball is never in your hands because LeBron and Kyrie have death grips on it.

We lost to Philly in 7 games in 1982 (remember the chant of "BEAT LA!!"?).  Larry averaged 18.3ppg that series and shot 41.2%.  During the regular season that year he averaged 22.9ppg on 50.3% shooting.  There were 4 games in that series where he scored under 20 points.  If we didn't know better we might think that Larry Legend was a playoff choker.

My point is that I think you're being a little harsh on Kevin Love.  He did well, it was the Cleveland bench that significantly underperformed. Korver, Shumpert and Deron.  Lue never went much deeper than 9 unless it was a blow out, so that only leaves Richard Jefferson as the lone bench player that played up to playoff expectations.  The GSW bench outscored the Cleveland bench 35-7 last night, 28 points, but Cleveland only lost by 9.

And he sure as shit croaked us.

The Cavs are screwed, at least next year. LeBron can't leave, their bench is old and retiring (was Channing Frye hurt, btw), JR can't defend a parked car and Thompson can't hit a shot beyond 3 feet. A lot of vet min contracts must come their way, I would imagine.
They have EIGHT players under contract for next year at 125 mill. This counts Jefferson, who said he is retiring, Frye who didn't even play, and Shumpert, who was basically useless.

Unless they can field a bench, or make a trade, they may have one year left, maybe none!
