#Celtics recently worked out Jonathan Isaac against Louisiana Tech forward Erik McCree in Las Vegas, per source.
bob
MY NOTE: Jonathon Isaac is currently ranked #6 by Draftexpress.com, and is the top-ranked player over 6'9". He's 6'11", 205#. A beanpole with a 7'1 1/2" wingspan, which is not that impressive for a 6'11"er but...Interestingly, the Draftexpress video says he should be able to guard 1-4 "as his frame fills out", but not 5. He's 6'11" and they don't see him ever playing defense at 5. Kelly Olynyk plays defense at the 5-spot, has alligator-arms and is earth-bound but not this 6'11" pogo stick? Hmmm.

Erik McCree is unranked. 6'7", 225#, 23 1/2 years old.

Re: Draft Workout Thread 2017
Bob,
Isaac may be able to jump, but from looking at his skinny body, he may not be able to muscle even a decent
college center.
Being almost 7 feet is not usually good enough to push around other 7 footers if they outweigh you by 40, 50 or 60 pounds.
A few years on the weights and this kid will fill out some, but still may never be able to handle physical
players in the NBA who play either the center or power forward positions.

Re: Draft Workout Thread 2017
Dennis Smith Jr reportedly had a 48" max vert leap today working out for the Lakers. Even if that's only 44", still absolutely incredible for a highly skilled prospect.
Danny commented recently about knowing all about these guys before they even go to college, so don't be surprised if he rates guys like Smith Jr and Josh Jackson above Fultz and Lonzo. Because Smith Jr and Jackson were always ranked head and shoulders above those guys in high school. Just like Danny knew all about Jaylen Brown before he went and underperformed at Cal.

So who will Danny Ainge pick #1?

He might trade down to 3 or 5 (and 10), but Smith Jr blew the Lakers away today. If Danny doesn't draft Jackson it will be because of the character concerns, and Smith Jr might be his favorite guy otherwise. Smith Jr's like a bigger IT who can rebound much better and challenge for triple doubles every night like Westbrook.
It'd be very complicated drafting Smith though, with IT still here.

You didn't answer my question.
Assuming Ainge doesn't trade the pick, who does he pick #1?

Gerald Green was a human pogo stick when he came into the league. Paul Pierce was considered "not athletic enough".
Which one is going to the Hall of Fame?

Bring them all in, evaluate them, then take Fultz and don't look back

you seem to know a lot about Smith, have read he is not a top flight defender, is that true? I would think if hes as athletic as you say, he should be a good defender as a lot of defense comes down to attributes and desire/toughness.

His wingspan is only 6' 3". He is an ultra athletic player. He has great hops and is quick. But he will NOT be the 1st player taken in the draft. He is definitely talented but has decision making issues. His short wingspan may impact his defensive abilities. He will be a single position player most likely. We need to put a sign out front "Short armed guys need not apply"

Josh Jackson has a promise, and he's only worked out for the Lakers, so Josh Jackson probably has a promise for the Lakers. That means if Boston drafts him, it might be without getting to see him in a workout.
Lonzo was always way overrated, and Fultz was overrated too. I suspect Danny either swoops in and steals Jackson, or he takes Smith at 1, 3, or 5.

Bingo. Leaping ability and speed/quickness are not the only metrics of athleticism, just the most easily measured. Pierce was highly coordinated, had unbelievable body control, balance, concentration, and vision, which meant that he was always a threat to score, and didn't need incredible athleticism to get his shot. He was also durable as hell, which I believe is related to coordination, balance, and body control - he instintively applied force/torque in natural, supported ways. The NBA is literally littered with "Athletes" who in reality can run and jump but who don't have great body control or hand-eye coordination.
