Looking for a quick turnaround in your teams fortune - don't expect much help from your # 3 pick. Over the last 36 years the #3 pick has failed to make, in his 1st 5 years, all-star, all-nba, all- nba defensive player or nba player of the year or defensive player of the year, a single time in 20 of those years, - did it once 4 times - twice 3 times - 3 times twice, 4 times on 3 occasions, 5 times once, 7 times once, 8 times once and Michael Jordan in his 1st 5 years racked up 10 honors. This past year Jaylen brown, a number 3 pick, for players that played at least 1100 minutes, ranked 194th in rebounds per game (2.8 ) and 225th  in points per game (6.6 ). It will be interesting to see how our #3 ( Tatum ) does this year. I will be very much surprised if Danny is going to run the risk that young 19 year olds bring to the game -  if he is able to to latch onto already proven super stars via trade or free agency.

Swish,

You know you're my favorite statistician! And my main guy on several fronts; right?  So forgive me here, but I've got to suggest we set all these details aside.

Fact is, Tatum got picked #3, but if not for the 76ers wanting Fultz so bad, Tatum would have been the #1 pick.  So perhaps we need to take a look at the impact of #1 selections.

I don't think we're looking at any shot of star players coming in at Tatum's position.  He's probably going to get the chance to hold that spot down rather quickly.  If anything, I expect we'll look for top shelf bigs... C/PF.

Tatum may have been a 3, but the proper comps should come from #1 picks.

We're in the middle of an amazing rebuild, we had the best record in the EC and we have lottery picks, all my friends that I talk hoops with, mostly Knick fans are amazed at what we have accomplished and wish their team was positioned like ours. I want the best available young talent and when the timing or the deal is right of course a trade or FA signing can work....I know you know the game and the history, I just find your vision very close minded. I don't care what the stats say about Jaylen Brown, I think he was the right pick and loved watching his growth. He is going to be a very very good asset that will further develop and will help this franchise, butt what I get from your lame posts, you don't see it this way.

Swish,

I may think Tatum is going to be superior to Brown, and it would appear the Celtics do as well, by virtue of their drafting him when they already have Brown and Crowder.

However, no one has said Brown was a failure, and I think The Celtics may still see great value in what he can do.  Brown is simply missing the shooting ability needed for a starting NBA wing; but he does most everything else well.  6th men are incredibly important to contending teams and I feel that may be just where Brown could be heading.  He's certainly shown he can be a key part of a regular rotation.  I think you win championships with 3 picks like Brown in the mix.

there's been plenty of teams that drafted their core and won the title like the GS Warriors and teams that drafted their franchise player thru the draft process, Bird, Magic, Jordan, then later they added a McHale or a Pippen, didn't Jazz draft Stockton and Malone....okay they had a long run, but never won a title. I could go on and on, your slanting all these negative stats on drafting has gotten old/weak to me.

Nothing more than a difference of opinion as to how to get the Celtics to their next championship - you seem to favor high draft signings - and I'm for trading, if possible, those same high picks and any other players necessary to get already established elite players - but I would be equally thrilled either way.

Probably best if I don't continue to respond to you on this subject - you have stated your opinion, in regard to my opinions, quite well. No reason to continue this conversation.

I think Ainge will have to sacrifice either Brown or Tatum to get Paul George.

Right now I like both Brown and Tatum because I think both have star potential.

It was a relief that Ainge kept the #3 pick and chose Tatum.

There were reports that the Celts were interested in Jonathan Isaac and Dennis Smith and the Celts were thinking about trading down further.

When reports were coming out that the Celts were not going to take Fultz #1, there were lots of speculation on what the Celts would do.

One trade proposal I read had the Celts trading the #1 pick for the #5 and #10 pick and Cauley-Stein.
That really made me laugh.
It's like a trade proposal from a grade school kid.
