Jaylen Brown has made considerable strides since getting booed on draft night.

The NBA announced its All-Rookie teams for the 2016-17 season Monday, and the Boston Celtics forward landed on the second team.

Ben Golliver ✔ @BenGolliver NBA announces 2017 All-Rookie teams. First team: Malcolm Brogdon, Dario Saric, Joel Embiid, Buddy Hield, Willy Hernangomez 9:34 AM - 26 Jun 2017 238 238 Retweets 257 257 likes

Brown received 24 first-team votes and 58 second-team votes for a total of 106 points, seventh-most among all NBA rookies. Brown, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, carved out an important role in Boston despite playing on a deep squad that finished with the best record in the Eastern Conference. The 20-year-old averaged 6.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and 0.8 assists in 17.2 minutes per game and ended up starting 20 contests.

The All-Rookie first team features a pair of Philadelphia 76ers in forward Dario Saric and big man Joel Embiid, who played in just 31 games but still is a Rookie of the Year favorite after averaging 20.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game.

Milwaukee Bucks guard Malcolm Brogdon, Sacramento Kings guard Buddy Hield and New York Knicks big man Willy Hernangomez round out the first team.

MY NOTE: The others all played more minutes, I believe.

If Brad had given Jaylen more minutes he would have been 1st team.

Last year Brown was on a short leash

Congrats to Jaylen. I was torn between Jaylen and Bender last year. I'm glad he took Jaylen

Jaylen showed a lot of potential last year as we all know.
He was tied for 20th in mpg among rookies and was 15th among rookies in ppg.

Agreed . And rightfully so. I expect an uptick in minutes this year, especially if Tatum gets some run at the 4.

JR,

How does a 6'8", 206# player play 4 in the NBA without looking like a bug on a windshield?

More likely he'll play 3 and Jaylen will get minutes at big 2, like he did when Bradley was out.

By gaining muscle. He`s 19 years old and plays extremely well in the box. I don`t think it`s as unlikely as you suggest.

JR,

Today's 3s are about 230#. How many years do you think it will take for Jayson Tatum to add 25# of good muscle while maintaining his athleticism?

I don`t see any guard skills from Jaylen Brown, Bob; nor do I see either of these guys being traded ,swish. Who are we going to get for them that would make a difference? Their salaries don`t match anybody of consequence .Hell, Noel is expected to get a long term contact in the 20 millions. We`ll find out, but not today.

Elite players get traded for high draft picks and young prospects when teams know that they are going to loose them to free agency - or when they are starting a rebuild and are also interested in expiring contracts for financial reasons. I'm hoping that will be the case for the Celts over the next 2-3 years.

The trade proposal for Paul George to the Celts was for Crowder and 2 picks, the 2018 Lakers pick and another 1st rounder that's not the 2018 Brooklyn pick.

JR,

Jaylen started and played Avery's position for many of those 21 games Bradley was out.

Brown came in with an NBA body. Everyone Danny took in that draft had the physique. He is very athletic and is developing rapidly. Tatum is an unknown but is said to be a polished scorer, something Jayen is not. They should play well with the starters when given the chance. But they should dominate other second teams, something we will see this summer, perhaps. I'm having a hard time putting together a mock roster when there is such a feeling of change possible with FA and trades. But I'm no longer surprised when Danny can't get a big deal done. But when Swish becomes right, everything changes for the better, right away.

CBS Sports listed Tatum as the number 1 power forward pre-draft. They referenced  the new breed of power forward in the small  ball NBA, and pointed out that he does the most damage down low on offense. Unfortunately, I can`t send the link , but it`s easy enough to find. Cedric Maxwell wasn`t exactly a beast either. As for Jaylen, we had basically a one guard offense when he replaced Bradley, unless your definition of a guard is a guy who needn`t possess any playmaking skills whatsoever. Just my opinion

Nice reward for a nice year by Jaylen Brown. I am sure that he will use the 'second' team stuff as a motivator to further improve himself.

DBoss, I can only agree that if Brown had played more he would have been first team due to better looking stats, but I am not crying about his second team spot either. He was the only rookie on this list who played for a team over .500, if I am not mistaken, so minutes had to be earned in different ways than the other guys.

I expect that he will be more of a factor this year. I was also glad to see my guy Buddy Hield make first team.
