Since the inception of the salary cap and draft lottery, the Lakers have been the fastest to go from one generation to the next to get back to the Finals.

Magic Johnson left in 1991 and the new generation Lakers of Shaq and Kobe were back in the Finals in 2000.

That's 9 years.

The Pistons of Isiah Thomas were on the decline after winning a championship in 1990.
Next time the Pistons were in the Finals was in 2004 with Rip Hamilton and Billups.

So the Celts making the Finals in 2020 is just about right.

Lottery seeds, barring pingpong ball moves, is based upon league-wide W-L record, not by conference. They could be the worst team in the west but still be better than Orlando, Indy and Chicago.

But because the balance of power shifted to the west, the east will also be weakened.

We don't need the Lakers to end up with the #1 pick, we just need the Lakers to end up with #2, #3, #4, or #5.

Sure the Lakers might have a better roster than a team like the Nets for example.
But the east is weaker than the west.
That means the Nets might still end up having a better record than the Lakers because the eastern conference is weaker than the western conference.

The perfect scenario is the Nets ending up with the #1 pick and the Lakers ending up with the #2 pick, just like this year, next year.
If that happens then the Celts will be picking #1 and #2.

Time for more waiting?  Perhaps, but I am totally happy with not doing any trade for Paul George as he was going to be leaving at the end of the next season no matter what.

I will sleep well tonight knowing that the Paul George mess is over.

BUtler went for Lavine (Combo G), Dunn (young PG) #7 pick.

hard to think Bradley and #3 pick isn't equal, throw in Rozier and it certainly is.

George for Oladipo ( SG) and Sabonis (Young Big).

seems like Crowder one of LA or Nets pick and Memphis pick wouldn't have trumped that deal.

anyone who thinks a roster with George, Butler, IT, Horford, Smart, Jaylen, Kelly (?) and Jerebko back, Zizic, Yabusele, #16 pick isn't better than whatever Danny puts together this year.....need to take off the Danny goggles.

Only way Millsap is a good option is if he agrees to a 1 year deal.
Maybe a 2-year deal with the 2nd year non-guaranteed.

He's just too old for the Celts and will only eat up cap space in the long-term.
