Griffin agrees to max deal with Clippers?
173M, 5 year deal?
Blake Griffin to sign 5-year, $173M deal with Clippers
9:54 PM ET
ESPN.com news services
Blake Griffin plans to reach agreement on a five-year, $173 million deal with the Los Angeles Clippers, league sources told ESPN.
Griffin met with team owner Steve Ballmer, coach Doc Rivers and special consultant Jerry West at Staples Center on Friday. Griffin did not get a no-trade clause, however, sources told ESPN's Ramona Shelburne.

The 6-foot-10 Griffin had previously told the Clippers he would opt out of his player option for next season and become an unrestricted free agent Saturday.
Griffin is recovering now from a toe injury that has left him questionable for the start of the season. He, suffered an injury to the plantar plate of his right big toe in Game 3 of the Clippers' playoff series against the Jazz.
In the 2016 playoffs, he suffered a quad injury in Game 4 of the Clippers' first-round series against the Trail Blazers. He did not return for the remainder of the series, and the Clippers were eventually eliminated in six games.

Now Danny is really running short of bigs.
Kelly might be in green next year after all...

Did Griffin even get his own thread here? If so, I couldn't find it.
So here goes . . .
Blake Griffin
There, done.

Oh yeah, Hayward is still out there! And I like the youth movement.

Re: Griffin agrees to max deal with Clippers?
This signing should have been pretty much expected by everyone.
Many professional athletes "keep score" by the total amount of money they earn. Egos are large,
and logic is rarely a consideration.
Signing for $173M for five years in one place over signing for $120M in another place? No brainer?
I expect Hayward to do the exact same thing for the exact same reason.
The new CBA is working to keep stars where they are just like it was intended to do.

Then we'll have to grow some of our own.

We have no other choice.
If Ainge cannot get Hayward, look for him to do a block buster trade for Anthony or like kind player.

worcester,
Plan A is working fine for wings, but what was Plan A for bigs again? Zizic and Yabby? Yabby might not be ready and we're losing a few bigs even if we re-sign Kelly and our front line wasn't especially big last year.

Re: Griffin agrees to max deal with Clippers?
Plan A is drafting quality bigs in 2018 when they are abundant and quite talented. Think Lew Alcindor in 1969. We certainly will have room on our roster.

Without Griffin, however good or bad that might be, it highlights our glaring weakness at big. We are losing Amir. We are most likely losing our Swedish Army Knife. Even if we re-sign Kelly that doesn't fix our front court issues. We are gaining Zizic, a rookie, and that is just not enough. I doubt the German, Daniel Theis, will be either. He is a defensive specialist, 2x DPOY in his league, but he's not a rebounding monster and our biggest weakness last year was rebounding. Neither Yabby nor Simi Simi Cocoa Puff will get the job done neither. Maybe that Ohio State kid but Jeez! Helluva thing, to depend upon an undrafted 23 year old rookie to get back to the EC Finals.
Think BIG, Danny, think big.

Bob,
I'm sure that is Danny's second priority now, right after Gordon Hayward. We are in a good position now to make a trade or two to shore up our bigs.
