Paul Pierce signs contract to retire with Boston Celtics

BOSTON -- Paul Pierce will always be remembered for his time with the Boston Celtics. He will get the chance to retire with the team, too, after signing a contract to officially end his career in Boston.

The Celtics announced the signing Monday with a picture of Pierce, who ended his NBA career after this past season, signing his new deal:

"We're honored that Paul has chosen to retire as a Celtic. He is among the very best Celtics -- a champion on and off the court," Celtics co-owner Wyc Grousbeck said in a statement. "We congratulate Paul on a Hall of Fame career, and look forward to seeing his number raised to the rafters of TD Garden."

"It's an honor to have this opportunity to once again call myself a Boston Celtic," Pierce said. "The organization and city took me in and made me one of their own, and I couldn't imagine ending my career any other way. I'm a Celtic for life."

maybe they can retire his number the night we win the east finals this year.

I do not think Pierce is going to actually play a game. He signed the contract and now he is retired, officially, and he did it as a Celtic. That's it.

I was amazed to learn that JJ (eqp mgr) had held pairs of never-worn Pierce shoes @ both Waltham & Garden, waiting for Paul, just in case...

The Celtics signing Paul Pierce will not affect team salary per source, with options such as a summer contract at their disposal.

He should be an assistant coach or just give him any damn title he wants to coach all the young wings and players in conditioning, skills to create your own shot and shooting.

I was just joking! I would like to see him involved in the organization but, as I said, he seemed pretty comfy on ESPN during playoffs. So, he may try his hand at that for a while until the right opportunity comes up

I gotta disagree, Kobe seeked out Hakeem Olajuwon for post up training/wisdom well into his 30's one summer, then in an interview all he talked about was how great the knowledge that he got was.

I thought as a TV analyst he was great too.

Paul was superbly smooth, smart, and savvy as a spokesman.

Years ago, when questioned about what he might want to do after retiring from playing, Paul quickly answered he would like Danny's job. Well, we all know that is not happening anytime too soon here, so they either find a position that will keep him in the loop or he stays status quo for a while. They had been saying that there were many GM's who felt that Paul would make a great addition to their team, so I can only hope that he holds out for something here in Boston Wilkie playing on television

He was eating clam chowder and a 9 pound lobster in Boston on Instagram last night.

Pierce has now signed with ESPN as an analyst.

He says he wants to be in the broadcast booth as well.

If his performance in the past two seasons playoff and championship broadcast packages are any indication, he's going to be very good at his new job.

he and Billups worked well together, very well spoken, articulate and entertaining. This is a good move for him,  Bravo Paul
