our old friend Jeff Green
Mika Honkasalo @mhonkasalo
Jeff Green's on/off-court net rating splits by season (& team). Teams always worse w/ Green on the court, unlikely to help Cavs

Re: our old friend Jeff Green
Jeff Green's career has been terribly disappointing when compared to his natural physical, athletic talents. He should have been an all star several times over by now, and should not have to bounce around the league and sign for a vet's minimum.
Just another example of it takes more than athletic abilities to become a good pro athlete??

Yes, he was a natural, BUT HE HAD OPEN HEART SURGERY! Methinks that took some of the heart out of his game. I'd have been freaked out by that.

Re: our old friend Jeff Green
I forgot who it was with but I used to have huge disagreements about four or five years ago with someone on this board who kept trying to tell me Jeff Green was one of the best small forwards in the NBA and I kept maintaining he was one of the worst. He even used to put down the Greek Freak and say that Jeff was a much better player. Even though the Freak wasn't what he is now back then, he was still able to contribute in so many more ways than Green did and his potential was obvious to anyone who watched him play. Green was always unbelievably inconsistent.

Re: our old friend Jeff Green
Back when we had ongoing discussions about Jeff Green and why there was a big disconnect between his athleticism and his production it all boiled down (IMO) to (1) he had a weak handle, (2) he was not a reliable 3 point shooter and (3) his effort and energy level was up and down.
When Danny decided to make the trade for Jeff he was ahead of the curve in recognizing that a long athletic wing was the direction that the NBA was going in. Unfortunately Danny failed to understand that Jeff had significant flaws in his skill level despite his athleticism.
AND...since we on on the subject of Jeff Green...
Danny short circuited the chemistry of a championship team by trading Perkins to get Jeff Green.
Sorry to bring this up again.

as bad as I felt, I felt even worse for Pierce and KG, to go from a historic defense to some inconsistent tease....

Re: our old friend Jeff Green
it was probably me!!!! i had a real soft spot for Green, and admired the way he came back from heart surgery in one year still able to play basketball.
it took me a while to see all of his flaws, Sam and I talked about it at great length. He has been a huge disappointment as far as living up to his capabilities. The funny thing is : look at how much money he has made. I know his contract this year must be the vet minimum, but last year Orlando paid him $15 million dollars! I know in today's world, that is just okay, but there is no way the Cavs are giving him anything near that. When he left hear he had a been making $9-10 million. Add all these contracts up plus what he made bouncing around and he has made a healthy sum of money and has been around long enough to collect his pension once he is ready.

Worcester,
Yes, Green did have open heart surgery, but he really wasn't any too much better before said surgery.
Also, I am not sure that knowledge and understanding are lost due to open heart surgery. He never seemed to play as worried about his heart failing, but he also never seemed to be able to play anywhere near as good as his skills should have allowed him to play.

I think it was Kleen or Mr Kleen, he and I also disagreed on Greens play and value, his argument was for 9 mill he was a good investment.

Yes. I will take the heat on this one.
We likely have never had a more talented physical specimen in Boston, but alas his motor was never the same after the open hear surgery - and he never took advantage of that natural ability.

Heart surgery notwithstanding, I had my doubts about him way back to his last tournament game at Georgetown where he just about totally disappeared. His career was consistent with that last game.cowens/oldschool wrote:agreed Mr Kleen as a specimen/athlete he had it all, he wasn't even near Rudy Gay.
