BOSTON, MA – The Boston Celtics announced today that they have signed 2016 first round draft pick Guerschon Yabusele. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Yabusele, selected with the 16th overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, spent last season with the Shanghai Sharks of the Chinese Basketball Association and with the Maine Red Claws of the NBA G League. The native of Dreux, France started the season with Shanghai and appeared in 43 games where he averaged 20.9 points, 9.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.35 steals and 1.05 blocks in 30.3 minutes per game. He also shot 52.7 percent from the floor and 36.4 percent from three. After he appeared in 43 games for Shanghai he moved to the Maine Red Claws of the NBA G League on March 29 and appeared in a total of seven games for the Red Claws including their playoff run. During the five games of the 2017 G League Playoffs he averaged 12.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists and shot 49.0 percent from the floor in 27.3 minutes per game.

MY NOTE:  A very, VERY busy day for Danny indeed.  First Larkin, then Theis and now Yabusele.  The terms don't need to be announced, he's on a first round rookie contract.  The only question is how many years.  I'd think it strange if it was for less than 4.  We have a very weird team right now...

I think the length and terms for 1st round rookie contracts is 5 years with the first 3 guaranteed and years 4 and 5 are team options

It will be very interesting to see where this young guy fits in and also how long it takes him to find a role.

Perhaps the tapes from his Chinese league games are just the beginning for him.

Hope his rebounding and 3 point shooting and overall game translates at next level, I like the competition at PF this year with Yabu, Semi, Morris and Horford could slide over there in a pinch if we go big next to Zizic or Baynes, so glad don't have to see KO and Zeller playing together.....that's for sure!!!

A lot of interesting line ups also want to see a dynamic wing line up of IT/Smart, Hayward, Brown, Tatum and Horford.

After the cut down Brad will give them the annual speech about guys not getting minutes but are still required to be ready when called upon.

Given all the new faces we should expect an extended period of time for Brad to experiment with an amazing number of combinations.

Yes seeing which players can find their role and which combinations play the best together will be compelling, we could really wear out teams with our depth, we might not have an ideal rim protector, but on paper we sure don't look soft....still gonna have to hide IT, which ever of Smart or Rozier can get his shot consistent could decide who gets the minutes and possibly contract going forward.

That's over a month old.

Less ancient (yet still old) news:

https://www.celticsblog.com/2017/7/3/15917794/isaiah-thomas-injury-update-stevens-says-it-will-be-ready-to-go-this-season

Isaiah Thomas is unlikely to have surgery on his right hip labrum tear this offseason and should be “ready to go,” for the upcoming season, coach Brad Stevens told reporters ahead of the Boston Celtics’ Utah Summer League opener Monday.

Thomas has been getting multiple opinions on his labrum tear throughout the offseason as he rehabs the injury, with the goal beign that the rehab would go well enough to avoid surgery. That appears to be the current path base don Stevens’ update.

“Every indication is he feels good and will be ready to go,” Stevens said as relayed by Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe.

Thomas will have a follow-up with his doctor in the next 7-10 days.

“He’s got a follow-up with his doctor that he’s been working closely with either next week or 10 days out from now and then determine next step,” Stevens said as relayed by Mark Murphy of the Boston Herald.

My comments:  Nothing in a search came up with anything anywhere close to recent.

My only concern is that he does not have surgery and ends up aggravating the hip and is then forced to have a surgical procedure during the season.

I simply cannot understand the reasoning of Isaiah's medical staff, especially heading into a contract year for him. He should have had arthroscopic surgery and platelet rich plasma therapy back in early June and perhaps have been 100% by January or February. This is a botched case IMHO. A break for Smart, Rozier, and Larkin.

I don't understand it either Worcester. But this is something that happens all the time in professional sports. They delay or opt not to have the surgical procedure and it then impacts the regular season. Guereschon got his diagnosis, had the surgery within a month, and is now well into his rehab. He will be ready. We just don't know enough about IT's specific situation but it sure seems like a set up for disappointment later on.

Worcester

IT's style of play puts a tremendous amount of stress on his hips. I think Danny signing Larkin is an indication that he may be concerned and needed a backup plan. However Larkin is nothing special so there would be a big hole to fill. Likely starting PG would be Smart and then Rozier.

I sure hope that rest is all that will be needed.
