Only One Top Pick For 2018

I was thinking about the 2018 Lakers pick (2-5 only) and have concluded that it will not happen for us.

Last year LA finished as the 2nd worse team in the NBA with a total of 26 wins. The team with the 5th worse record finished at 29 (Orlando Magic) If you look at wins over the past 10 years for teams that finish at #2 or #5 range the average number of wins is 19.5 and 25.4

If you look at the Lakers they are set up to win probably 10 more games this year which would put them at 36 wins for the year and well outside of the 2-5 range.

The 2018 Nets pick is the last of the Golden Eggs. We will not have 2 top 5 picks. Forget about it.

probably true, but don't we get the Kings pick he next draft if we don't get the Lakers pick next year?

that could easily be another high lottery pick.

You're forgetting the balance of power has shifted to the west.

Jimmy Butler is now with the Wolves.

Paul George is now with OKC.

Sure the Lakers might have a better roster this upcoming season, but the other teams in the west have also improved.

There's no way the Lakers will win 36 games in the west.

No doubt they can win 36 games if they're in the east, but not in the west.

There is a lot that can't be accounted for such as chemistry,  injuries, other teams doing much better than expected, Lakers players not living up to the hype,  and the ping pong ball gods mood on lottery day. 

  While we might think the Lakers are better than they were last year and the nets suckality will continue the damdest things could happen, the nets could slip into the playoffs and the Lakers could win the #1pick in the lottery. 

 In the meantime it's fun to speculate  on the possibilities.

I think Nets will have a better record, because they're in the east, than the Lakers next season.

The Lakers do look to have a somewhat better roster, but the entire western division seems to have strengthened themselves as well.  For the Lakers to win 36 I think that they will have to sweep against many of the teams in the east because they can easily be swept by about nine teams in the west and could end up 1-3 or 2-2 against the other five western teams.  The only team out west who may still be tanking this next season could be the Suns.

The Nets will be at least a little bit better, but probably not good enough to get to the playoffs which means that some ping pong ball luck could land us a top five pick.  Even a top ten pick will be pretty nice for a good team (maybe first or second in the east).

Even if LA only wins 5 more games this season and ends up with 31 wins that is still above the 10 year average in wins for teams that finish 5th from the bottom.

I stand by my statement that Boston will not get the LA pick this year.

Well I did do the research first and I am simply going by the numbers. Of course I would like to be absolutely wrong about this. The good thing is that we would have the 2019 pick which would likely comes from the Kings.

IT wont get a max deal.

Any predictions on the weather in January in Orlando? Got a trip planned and trying to get a jump on packing.
