Marcus update

The team has been sailing in rough seas the past three games (before last evening) getting outscored by about 60-3. Two games ago they lost 27-6 and gave up an astonding 21 runs in the third inning alone. 5 errors in the inning didn't help and Marcus did his share as did some others by missing two high foul pop ups at first base which he played the entire game. We have always practiced grounders but hitting popups is an skill I have yet to achieve but looks like I'll have to figure out a way.

Anyway after the big loss there was no time to dwell on it, we had a game the next eve against a team that has had their struggles too. Plus another player went down with a 5 day suspension fromn school for a fighting incident, now we only had 10 players including the kid with the bad Hammy. Coach shook things up a bit and told the 3 seniors they could play where they wanted. Thus we had a new shortstop. Our catcher and firstbaseman were also seniors. Marcus went to right field and batted 7th.

We score 5 in the first. Things appear to be going fine but an error leads to 2 for the opposition and then they score 4 more in the 5th to take a 6-5 lead. In the top of the 6th our first 4 batters all reach on singles and we've tied it at 6. Bases still loaded no one out. Next kid strikes out and Marcus comes to the plate. After nearly missing a slicing liner down the third base line (opposite field) with a 2-2 count he nails one in the same place only this one is fair by a little driving in a couple. And giving us a lead that we hung on to by winning 10-7. Big thing is that we only made 2 errors.

With games Monday (against this same team) Tuesday, Thursday and a tournament next Saturday (2 games) we'll be busy and Marcus will get another crack on the mound shortly.

Can't blame Marcus for the errors, unless he's making them.

Always nice to have a pitcher who can also hit.
