Marcus's best effort to date!!
Team again lost 7-5 but it was no fault of the big lefty. Marcus actually had a no-hitter going with 2 out in fifth before finally allowing a ground single to center. At the time we were up 3-1. Marcus with 2 out in the second walked 2 in a row and an error (our only one) by the shortstop allowed 1 run in. Marcus then set down the next 10 in a row. In the sixth he gave up three singles, 2 sacrifice outs scored 2 to tie it. The relief pitcher came in and allowed 2 singles and a run, and now Marcus was on the hook for a loss. We came back to take the lead but lost it in the top of the 7th on a 2 out bases clearing triple with 2 stikes on the batter, just a pitch away from a win.
Marcus's line was 5 2/3 innings 4 hits 3 earned runs, 2 walks, a hit batter, and 1 strike out. threw 68 pitches 40 strikes. He had 3 innings where he threw totals of 4,6, and 6 pitches to retire the side in order. Defense played very well behind him too. Just didn't get enough hits on our side!.
Marcus was not in the batting order as the coach DH'd for him so he would only concentrate on pitching!

Re: Marcus's best effort to date!!
Beat,
Glad to hear of Marcus' latest outing. Looks like he had a real good balls to strikes ratio. Also, I have often heard at all levels that a quality start is 3 runs or less. So, definately looks like he had a quality start in my book. He is still competing against older kids, correct? He can only get better with experience and as he catches up to the older age group of his competition. Good luck to Marcus for future successes.
On a seperate note. I heard yesterday that Stephen Strasburgh has just been promoted to AAA Syracuse. Guess he is on the fast track.

Three innings with 16 total pitches to retire the side in order?
I take it his control and probably his velocity were in the zone.
Nice outing even without the W!

Right on all fronts.
And the delema is we got tickets to see Strasburgh pitch tonight in Syracuse and of course we'll miss the C's. Thank goodness for the internet and cell phones.
Got seasts down by the Syracuse bullpen to watch him warm up. I'll put a couple photos up tomorrow.

It certainly helps when the batters swing at the first pitch too.

Way to go Marcus.
He's really playing well, even if his team isn't helping him.

Beat,
Cool, I will be looking for the photos. Have a great time. I will also, unfortunately miss the C's game tonight. I got dragged into seeing Iron Man 2 with my son and some friends of his and mine. I will be recording the C's game on my DVR and will check out a C's victory later, hopefully.

Stausberg was as good as advertised. 6 innings of 1 hit ball. 6 strike outs. Hit 99 MPH with the fastball but struck out people with the change and curve that was just nasty.
AND to top that he drove in the first run with a solid singe his first at bat and the third run with a perfect bunt. Our seats were 3 rows off the field near the bullpen located along the third base line so we got pretty close.
Took a bunch of photos here are a few,

Beat,
Great pictures. Thanks. I enjoyed them. Below is a link to an article that appeared last year in the San Diego paper if your interested in reading it. Believe it or not, Strasburg was not even drafted out of high school and had few options.

Thanks Jeb,
Glad to see the C's rebound today. Now they have to take game 5 in Cleveland and clinch at home.
