Former Knicks, Warriors F David Lee announces retirement from NBA
Dane Carbaugh,NBC Sports 18 hours ago
One of the NBA’s more under appreciated forwards has announced his retirement from the NBA.
David Lee, who spent time in his career with the New York Knicks, Golden State Warriors, Boston Celtics, Dallas Mavericks, and San Antonio Spurs, told the NBA world about his retirement via his Instagram page on Sunday.
Lee, 34, played last season with the Spurs. He averaged 7.3 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 1.6 assists for Gregg Popovich’s team.
Via Instagram:
Lee played 14 seasons in the NBA, the majority of which came with the Knicks. During his time in New York, Lee was seen as an unsung hero, nabbing rebounds and doing yeoman’s work from the power forward position.
The Knicks traded Lee to Golden State in the summer of 2010 for Kelenna Azubuike, Anthony Randolph, Ronny Turiaf, and two second round picks. He was part of the Warriors’ 2014-15 NBA Championship before eventually being traded to Boston in 2015.

MY NOTE: When he was here, for the very short time he was here, he couldn't make a shot, the same shots that he hit his entire career weren't dropping. He rebounded, he passed well within the Stevens offense, brought the ball up even but couldn't buy a basket. He was even blowing bunnies and he never did that. He went to San Antonio and thrived. His cost was negligible since he was traded to us from GSW for Gerald Wallace and Chris Babb, who weren't playing anyway, so whatever we got after we acquired David Lee is more than we were getting before we acquired David Lee.
Just like Kevin Love, who is the nephew of Beach Boy Mike Love, David Lee came from wealth (his grandfather owned a business that made hanger for slacks and wire shelving. It was bought by Rubbermaid in 1992 for $73M) but wanted to prove he was his own man. 2x All-Star, 1x World Champion and own man David Lee hung'em up today.

He admits that he was out of shape when he was in Boston. Essentially stealing money. No love from me.

He certainly played a lot better when he went to Dallas that same year. Shooting went from 45% to 64% and rebounds per 36 minutes went from 10 to 14.5. And he was solid when he played his next (and last) season in San Antonio. But he sucked for us. I really thought he could've helped us and was looking forward to having him here. He had a nice career.

Re: David Lee Retires
The reality of David Lee as a member of the Celtics never equaled the promise. So much hope, so little delivered.

Not really happy either way for this guy. He played some nice basketball in the NBA, but was a huge BUST during his time in Boston.
I take it personally that he decided to show up "out of shape" coming to Boston.
