Cavaliers Trade Isaiah Thomas, Channing Frye, First Round Pick To Lakers For Jordan Clarkson, Larry Nance Jr.

Not sure if the Brinks truck went with him.

Guess he wouldn't have gotten his tribute video either way. (Would that we could have avoided that mess altogether...)

I feel for IT--hasn't been an easy year.

The Lakers pick is back in play. Thomas does not help LAL this year and neither does Frye.

They are playing a lot better but this trade might fix that.

I read where a writer said this means Cleveland feels they are keeping LeBron

I think its just the opposite. Clarkson is on a mutli-year deal and Nance is still on his rookie deal.

add in the nets pick and Cleveland has some pieces to start the rebuild without the king.

at least that makes sense to me.

Strange trade.

Clarkson has some potential.

Guess LA isn't expecting Ball any time soon.

Odd enough, if there's anything to the LeBron to LA rumors, this helps them clear space to do so. If not, it still allows them to target other future free agents.

Alright, I'm gonna say it. Celtics sign IT this summer after he realizes he is not getting near max money. IT comes off the bench on a one year contract to reestablish his worth. Celtics hang another banner, and IT wins 6th man of the year award while also earning a big paycheck somewhere else for the following season.

I know it will never happen, but it's fun to dream.

NYCelt,

No way LeBron goes to the Lakers if IT is still there next year. Clippers? Maybe, but he just got IT thrown out of Cleveland, he isn't going to follow him to the Lakers.

At the end of the day all Cleveland has left after the Kyrie trade is the Brooklyn pick and Ante Zizic.  I realize that IT and Crowder were instrumental in getting Clarkson and Nance and Hood and Hill to Cleveland but how much they were isn't clear, so I can't figure that out.

All in all, however, I think Cleveland did well today, long-term.  Short-term?  I don't know yet.

I don't see the Lakers as improving themselves this year, although next year they should be good by shedding some of the contracts that Dim Buss signed.

Cleveland has definitely improved. Clarkston and Hood are really good players. Nance provides that young athletic PF defender that they have been missing and Hill provides veteran leadership. Cleveland has gotten a lot younger and more athletic.

The Lakers are just looking to make a big splash in free agency but James may now just stay in Cleveland.

The Cavs have rid themselves of all the grumpy players in IT, Crowder, Frye and Shuppert. This was a major house cleaning event and one I have never seen executed in the middle of the season.

WHERE IS CROWDER??

Boy, I have felt all along IT was going but somehow, not here. This is a steal I think for Cleveland. Maybe I am wrong, but it is the way I feel.

LeBron's a joke. He is the Phil Jackson of players looking for cushy situations with the least resistance. Kyrie just wants to be the best he can be on a winning team. LeBron is the problem. Thankfully he is finally out of his prime and is due a market correction for legacy.

Bob,

IT probably won't be there next year. I believe IT is an expiring contract; that's his value to The Lakers. Same with Frye, I think. Those expiring contracts should give them some breathing room, along with unloading the contract they had with Nance.

I'm guessing that's the motivator behind the trade for them. They've said they want to shop the FA market in 2019. OR, the LeBron rumors could have some substance.

Now rid of Wade and Rose, Cleveland is cleaning house. Anybody's guess if it's to build around James and retain him, or get ready to go major rebuild without him. Time will tell.

This is what desperation smells like. Cleveland having a fire sale. Lakers in full tank mode.

I feel for IT, but he honestly did the Celtics a big favor by hanging out with Money Mayweather and getting too full of himself. Now it is almost certain he will not be getting anything close to a max deal.

Danny Ainge once again playing chess when others are playing checkers.

Cavs had to blow it up. Their chemistry was terrible. Now they have 2 months to figure it out and if not, they picked up some capable players to transition to their next phase if Lebron leaves.

Last night's game where Cleveland beat the Timberwolves on LeBron's last shot was evidence of how LeBron felt about Thomas. They showed Thomas trying to congratulate him several times and LeBron's ignoring him totally. It was terrible.
He should be glad he is out of that cancerous enviornment and get a fresh start. Maybe he stays, maybe he doesn't but he calls his own shot now because he is a free agent at the end of the season

The Cavs moves reek of taking a sledgehammer to the panic button. So late in the year and they have moved major components of their rotation.

IT has been in the press quite a bit lately and not for good reasons. His comments come off as him not having bought into their system. Even if what he says is true, I can't say it reflects positively on him. With that said, I do feel for him. He's been moved around and faced some emotional adversity since the end of last season. I hope hes able to grow from this and be successful. But will LA keep him?

I'm also curious about another factor: How does Lue respond? He's no Brad Stevens and struggles to adjust to what other teams can do. All year Cleveland has been making excuses about having a lot of new guys while Boston only returned 4 players from last year. I actually think Lue could be looking for work once this season is over.

All in all, I can't really tell if this is an attempt to save the season with one last ditch effort or preparing for a post-Lebron scenario. Perhaps its some strange amalgamation of both.

Marcus sent me this a bit ago....

Jae Crowder was escorted out of the Cavs facility following a fight with LeBron James after hearing he was traded to the Jazz.

Hope Jae got in a few licks

Kleen I do not think Mayweather had anything to do with IT wanting to get paid. Once Irving became available it really did not matter if IT wanted a big contract or not. This is all about Kyrie. Danny never wanted to pay IT big money.

The moves being made by Cleveland are a direct result of them trading Kyrie to Boston.

I too feel bad for Thomas as well as you do. He is in a no win situation. LA did not clear out all that CAP space because they want to resign him. He will be lucky to get an offer in the MLE range. The few teams with CAP space ain't gonna spend it on him. He goes back to being a backup PG off the bench for short money after the season.

I'm not sure if the Jae vs BronBron story is real but it's clear this organization has some serious issues and Lebron certainly has a lot to do with that.
