According to a league source, the Celtics and center Aron Baynes are finalizing his return to Boston on a two-year deal.

MY NOTE: Resign Smart, a full year of Kyrie and Hayward, step up years for the Js and the baptism of Boo Butt and we are in business.

Welcome back to Aron Baynes, one of the rarest players. One who runs to meet and stop those 'down hill' dunkers that most run FROM. #Celtics
bob
MY NOTE: VERY reasonable $. C'mon, Marcus!

who is boo and butt?
and that's the ONLY dollars we could have signed Baynes for. He didn't let any money on the table. we had no bird rights .

A very reasonable $5.5 million salary. The Celtics will brush up against the luxury tax if and when Marcus is signed.

Very nice to have Baynes back! He brings many things that are not necessarily seen in the stat lines, and every team needs contributors like him.

Good deal.
Horford, Baynes, and Williams will provide three solid forwards with different strengths, and give depth to the front-court. Theis, or whoever might get picked up along the way, will lend emergency coverage too.

I would think Brad is planning on more for Theis than “decent enough emergency coverage.” I think he is going to get consistent and important minutes off the bench and is just as important as Baynes and probably much more than Williams will be in his rookie season.

Bob,
Conjecture on my part at this point, but I think Theis will quickly be eclipsed by Williams.
I think Williams will really boost the defense and rebounding.

I agree. I think that it will be Baynes or Theis starting alongside of Horford, depending on how big the other team's big is.
I predict a steady diet of Maine lobster for Williams and a season pass on the Downeaster.

Re: Baynes to Re-Sign With Celtics
Hmmm...
Do I sense a friendly bet shaping up involving our friends gyso, cowens and myself?
We've been talking about seriously working toward a get board together next season. Could a drink at that time be riding on this?
We would need to define Williams' spot on the depth chart at a given point, or maybe playing time or something.
That and list who is on which end of the wager.
Anyone want in? gyso? Cow? Others?
Could be fun having a little friendly rivalry going when the season starts!

Re: Baynes to Re-Sign With Celtics
I'm in. I think the wager could be "beer of choice" bought by the one who is most off. Some of the stuff NYCelt buys (or just mentions) is out of my price range.
I think that at this time, Williams is more "potential" than "ready for prime time".
I will have to wait until later tonight to finish my thoughts, maybe start a wager thread.
I have to drive a couple hours to my office in Cary (from Charlotte) to have some new software installed in my laptop and remote desktop. A couple upgrades, to AutoCAD and Office 360 and general cleanup.
I'll meet all y'all back here this evening.

Sounds like a plan. I'll be in and out this week, but I'll try and check back within 24 hours.
Another baseball tournament and, unexpected great deal came up, so we're buying a new house. Can't ever do things small or easy around here.
The beer of choice by furthest off sounds good. Maybe make it something brewed in Boston; lots to choose from there.
A dedicated thread would be good too. Maybe we can pin it to the top of the page so we can track it easily!

Re: Baynes to Re-Sign With Celtics
Not betting anything, but if Theiss starts hitting threes as he did in Europe, I could see a lot of playing time. Williams value will increase exponentially if he can get his free throw shooting up over 60 percent

Hi,
Even without 3-pts Theis is light years ahead of Williams at this point. Last season he showed that he deserves 10-12 MPG and those minutes will be very productive.
