NBA Trade Rumors: Cavs ‘Looking To Move’ Kyle Korver In Wake Of LeBron James’ Exit

The Cleveland Cavaliers no longer are an NBA championship contender now that LeBron James has left as a free agent, so could we see their front office trade veterans for young players and/or draft picks? One such player is Kyle Korver. The 37-year-old forward is an excellent 3-point shooter and was acquired by the Cavs in a trade with the Atlanta Hawks prior to the trade deadline in 2017. Korver could be an excellent addition to a contending team that needs to upgrade its outside shooting. Terry Pluto of Cleveland.com reported Sunday the Cavs’ intentions with Korver. “I hear the Cavs are looking to move Korver,” Pluto wrote. “He has a contract for $7.5 million this season. In 2019-2020, he also has a $7.5 million deal with $3.4 million guaranteed.” Korver averaged 9.2 points per game and shot 43.6 percent from 3-point range for the Cavs last season. He struggled at times in the playoffs, but still put up 8.3 points per game and shot 41 percent from deep. As Pluto notes above, he’s on a relatively cheap contract, too, so he wouldn’t be an expensive acquisition for contending teams close to the salary cap or already in the luxury tax. The most intriguing decision the Cavs need to make is whether to trade or keep All-Star forward Kevin Love. He probably has the most trade value on the Cleveland roster outside of first-round draft pick Collin Sexton.

He is a poor defender and a complete non factor in big games IMO. Had had a minor impact in the series vs the Celtics and NO impact vs the Warriors.
Would much rather see Rozier get those shots.

Pass
We have 2 pretty good shooters that will be joining the team that didn’t finish on our team last year.

No room at the inn plus he is too pricey for our salary cap issues.

no thanks
He'll likely be bought out and maybe sign with the Warriors for minimum. his Salary is too high for his value now.
Love also likely has little value with his $20M plus contract. there was talk around Draft time that the Trailblazers may have been willing to part with McCollum for Love ( I think he was born in Oregon) but I think Portland wanted the #8 draft pick back also, which didn't happen.

Jabari Bird can probably average 8 ppg for far less money and play much better defense at the same time.
Absolutely a big NO to Korver with the Cs.

With 6 players on the team that played starter minutes this past season (at least 25 minutes per game) and adding a 3rd (Hayward) who also averaged at least 25 minutes per game the previous year - management may very well struggle to find enough shots to keep all happy. Enough is enough as all 7 had 3 point averages of at least .368 last year or in the case of Hayward - the previous year.

If the Cavs buy him out I would offer a one year vet minimum provided we stay under the tax.

If we play with pace then shot distribution shouldn't be an issue.

Our starters and top reserves play a few too many minutes. With the depth that this team has playing more players fewer minutes will be a better way to go IMO. It will also keep our best players fresher for the playoffs and give our end of bench players more opportunity to prepare for when they are needed to play due to injury. This is a team of selfless players, even our ISO guys put team first. There will be no complaints on minutes played for players on a team that is 32 and 10 and building.

Last year we saw a lot of games where Al Horord just ran out of gas. He simply does not have the capacity to play at a very high level game in and game out.
With Theis and Baynes returning and the drafting of Willams (injury not withstanding) Al should be able to play a few less minutes and maybe not be relied upon to be the main front court defender.
The other day when Brad was interviewed the subject came up about the depth of the roster in general and finding minutes for so many players. He basically said that it is not something he is worried about. He did say that he can only play 5 guys at a time.
