Teams To Watch
Not literally.
This is not a must watch TV recommendation. It is about the Boston Celtics and how their potential 4 first round picks are lining up.
Tonight the surprising Kings are @ the surprising Grizzlies. A king's loss tonight and tomorrow in Houston would be favorable.
LAC won last night ...Boo
LAC are playing very well and that is surprising. Paul, Griffin and Jordan are all gone and they actually look better. Doc for COY? Let's not get carried away so soon.
I will be updating our draft position throughout the year. Any lottery team is of course at the mercy of the bouncing ball.
Current draft picks include 19th, 21st, 22nd and 23rd

Kings will move DOWN, down down...LOL.
Memphis pick I think will be ours.
Clippers likely also, unless they tear it down.
WHAT THE HELL WILL DANNY DO WITH FOUR PICKS!!!

Butler had a big game last night for Philadelphia but look what Minnesota did without him... they crushed a good Portland team.

All 3 of those teams have been playing well. The Kings pick has the least protection. I saw that they lost last night and I was happy about that. The Clippers are playing well right now but Gallinari always seems to get hurt. he is playing 30 MPG and averaging 19. LAC may not have enough depth.
Memphis looked great last night

To be honest this was meant as a team watch for the three teams that may be handing over their 1st round picks to Boston. So I figured it would be fun to track them.

His response is one reason I refrain from posting much.

sorry Beat, I was just joking.
I know sarcasm does not come through much, so I should have been clearer.
seriously, I wasn;t giving out any heat, just kinda joking about all the previous Butler talk here in the past few weeks.

Re: Teams To Watch
Memphis has lost 3 in a row. Sacto has dropped 2 straight games.
The surprising LAC are #1 in the west.
All 3 picks are still in play but we need more losses from them. The Sacto pick remains the most valuable of the 3.

Re: Teams To Watch
The Kings got beat at home by LAC. With this win the surprising Clippers sit atop the WC. We own their pick lotto protected and unless things turn south that one is in the bank although it looks to be in the bottom of the draft.
The good news is that the Kings have now fallen into lottery territory. This is a big deal. The Kings pick has the potential to produce a top 10 pick. They are a horrible defensive team and I think that are probably closer to being the 7th worse team right now.

Re: Teams To Watch
Both Memphis an Sacramento have fallen out of the top 8 in the West (Grizzlies 3-7 and Kings 5-5 over past 10 games)
If you look at point differentials Kings are 8th from the bottom and Grizzlies are 12 the Clippers are 18th.
All 3 picks are still in play along with the Celtics pick.

Memphis lost again (3rd in a row. Both the Kings and the Clippers have dropped 2 in a row. Need the Clippers to stay in the playoff hunt just barely.
Memphis has the Nets and SA coming up. Nets have been a surprise team.
The Kings have Denver and GSW. They also have a 6 game road trip coming up.
By the end of January both the kings and Grizzlies will be finished.

Re: Teams To Watch
Here's the deal:
If 2019 Memphis pick is Top 8 Protected (i.e. 9-30), it belongs to Boston. If it is 1-8 then the pick rolls forward to 2020 and is Top 6 Protected (i.e. 7-30 goes to Boston). If Memphis' first round pick in 2020 is 6 or higher then it rolls forward one more year to 2021 and is completely unprotected.
Memphis is the 9th oldest team in the NBA as of the start of the season. That average is affected by Vince Carter, but he can't drag it TOO far down single-handedly. (Boston is the 18th oldest, 12th youngest). The top players on Memphis are Marc Gasol (33 years old, $25.5M/year through 2020) and Mike Conley (31 years old, will be making >$30M through the 2021 season. $34.5M in 2021, virtually guaranteeing he is untradeable). Furthermore, Chandler Parsons will be making $25M/year through 2020 and, coupled with his chronic injuries, is absolutely untradeable. He's 30 years old and has played a total of 46 minutes this year, a grand total of 1432 minutes in almost 2 1/2 years in Memphis.
Rumor is that Omri Casspi and teammate Garrett Temple fought in the locker room after the Detroit loss.
As of 1/3/19 Memphis is in the #13 with just 2 1/2 games separating them from 8th (which is where we roll forward to next year)

Memphis just traded Marshon Brooks and Wayne Selden plus two 2nd round picks to Chicago for Justin Holliday.

I think both may be in play. If the Celtics have the draft assets to trade up if they see a player they covert

Re: Teams To Watch
Here are mock drafts, as of 1/4/19. If the season ended today Boston would have the #14 and #13 pick, not including their own pick and the Clippers' first round pick.
nbadraft.net - https://www.nbadraft.net/2019mock_draft
Morant goes at #3, Gafford at #22.
They have Boston picking at #13 with the Memphis pick and #18 with the Sacto one.
Not unreasonable. Sacto could make the playoffs and, considering how shitty the EC is, their #8 playoff spot W/L record would probably given them around the #18 pick.
mynbadraft.com - http://www.mynbadraft.com/NBA-Mock-Draft
Morant goes at #8, Gafford at #17.
They have Boston picking #18 (Memphis) and #19 (Sacto). Unless I am completely misunderstanding the way this works, this would mean that mynbadraft.com expects BOTH Memphis and Sacramento to make the playoffs. Hmmm.

Re: Teams To Watch
Bob thanks for the update.
Gafford looks like a traditional low post center. I actually think
Charles Bassey would be a better fit. He seems to have more offensive skills.
Morant is a turnover machine at PG and a poor shooter.
Danny has his priorities and he is very unpredictable. If I was making the call and since there are no really superior PG's in this draft I think I would go big if a stretch 5 can be had.
Knowing Danny he will draft 3 more wings.
But with Morris and Rozier likely heading out the door and considering their roles it seems logical that replacements at PF and PG would be a priority. Could Boston get by at the big forward spot by rotating a combination of Tatum, Hayward, Semi and/or Yabusele?
Could they just start Theis at PF? Or would they consider moving AH to his natural PF position and start Williams at center next season?
Maybe Wannamaker plays more next year. That would give you Irving, Smart and him for point guard duties.
These possibilities open the door for Danny to go after the best available player and combine a couple of picks to make that happen.
