Re: POST GAME BROOKLYN NETS - AWAY
I can see that this recent loss has not sat well with fans.
When we look at this team and individual players the most important thing I think is to be able to recognize trends . How is a player trending and how is the team trending.
I do not like Charles Barkley and I disagree with most of what he says and I agree with some of what he says. I do not think that this team is too young. This was a specific design that Danny came up with because the roster fits a certain time line.
If anyone recalls a while back I did a thread about the top teams and how the shot distribution looked. What I found was most top teams have 2-3 guys taking most of the shots. On paper it always looks good when the Celtics put 6 guys in double figures. The offense is designed that way and even if you added more veteran players and purged some of the youth you would get the same result. The ball swings most of the time to an open shooter but not necessarily the shooter that should take that particular shot. Brad has a philosophy that everyone and their distant relatives are obligated to take that goddamn 3 point shot.
But I really disagree with Barkley that the biggest problem on the team is too many young players that are talented and want to improve themselves vs more veterans that can only fill a specific role on this team. Every team needs a specialist or two but the more talent you have the better your team should be.
Here we are halfway through the season and look how many players have already missed games do to injury. Last night we had two starters missing and on paper they had adequate replacements. Unfortunately one guy played very good and the other guy did not. Collectively the team did not play well.
The Celtics have a big problem in the middle. That is their main problem. And I really do not think this team can get to where they want to go with Al Horford. Sorry but I cannot help but pound on this issue.
Secondly this particular team has been together for only 1.5 seasons. Remember this team is a rebuild inside of a rebuild. This team has struggled to integrate a significant player into the rotation (Gordon Hayward) This team has some outstanding young talent that is still in the developmental stage. This team relies heavily on analytics which sometimes conflicts with common sense.
As fans we have been overly optimistic and where ill prepared for the journey at hand.
There remains a good chance that Boston can make some noise during the post season but mentally I have already kicked the can down the road.
