Bracing himself for the possibility of Rivers leaving, Ainge said he had a running list of coaches in mind, but that he too would take as long as he needed to find a replacement even if it meant months. Former Celtics assistant Tom Thibodeau was introduced today as head coach of the Chicago Bulls. "Just like with players, you always have coaches in the back of your mind as well," Ainge said. "But this situation is really unique. We were in the middle of the Finals and Thibs would have been a candidate for us. Someone that we would have spent time and discussed and figured things out with the coaching. "If [Rivers] chooses to move on, I will take a long time to make that decision. I don’t think that decision needs to be made quickly. It needs to be done right. And we will take months if we need to."

The other logical choice to replace Rivers if the C’s keep the top of their roster intact is Danny Ainge. Two basketball sources suggested yesterday this would be the club’s best option if Rivers departs. The question then centers mainly on Ainge’s health and whether his heart issues would be too adversely affected by the coaching grind. His innate competitiveness would make him unable to throttle back. Boston Herald

If Danny's health allows him to coach the Celtics next season (if Doc leaves of course) then I'm all up for it!
