52 and counting.. Empty 52 and counting..

Post by Matty Wed Aug 25, 2010 3:29 pm

an odd fact hit me earlier today i thought i'd share: we got us a lot of all star expereince on this years team! I mean a lot a lot..

Rondo- 1
jermaine o'neil- 6
Paul Peirce-8
Ray allen-9
KG- 13
Shaq-15

52 appearences in the all star game all told (wooda been 56 is Sheed wooda stayed on) I cant think of any other team ever being able to floor (actauly we cant even put all of our all stars on the floor legally at once) so many All Star appearences.

does anyone know if this is an NBA record?

Matty,

Interesting observation. I don't know of any team that has combined so many previous all-stars at the end of their careers.

By way of comparison, the team I consider the greatest of all-time (the 1962-63 Celtics) had only 28 all-star appearances among them as of the 1962-63 season. By the time they all retired, they had 53 among them.

This is not to imply that I consider all-star credentials more than peripherally associated with how good the team is. A lot of factors (including age, agility and brittleness) have to be considered.
