My Newest Acquisition
Every night at the TD Garden - they have a silent auction for charity, and usually have some pretty sweet items up for bid. For example, last night they had a set of blueprints of Fenway Park - signed by Jim Rice - Fred Lynn - Dwight Evans. They also had a signed picture of Bobby Orr's famous flying goal, along with the scorecard from that night.
The prize of the night for me was a picture of Bill Russell blocking a Wilt Chamberlain shot, with Jim Loscutoff looking on. The picture was autographed by Mr Russell, and also featured a piece of the famed parquet floor - and a game used net from one of the championships in the 60s.
I placed a bid....and went to enjoy the game. In the 4th quarter, I got a text that I had won. Newest edition to my small but growing Celtics hall of fame wall.

Wow, that is one great item. Fantastic.
I've seen that photo before, but not like this.
Congratulations. And all for a good cause.

That framed photo would be terrific even unsigned. The fact it's signed by the man himself is way cool.

Re: My Newest Acquisition
Stuff I have read said that photo was taken by Boston Globe photographer, Dick Raphael - in 1960. That would mean Loscy was the #18 in the picture.
Perhaps Sam can chime in - bet his knows.

Re: My Newest Acquisition
Believe it or not, no one else bid on it. Bidding started at $250...but to be safe (and for the $ going to charity at Christmas Time) figured I would go a bit over.

Re: My Newest Acquisition
Mrkleen,
Congratulations on your winning bid. That picture has always illustrated for me the similarity between pro basketball and ballet. And, for a lesson on wing span, note that Wilt's sneakers are much higher off the floor than Russ' and yet Russ's outstretched hand is well above that of Wilt.
The other two players in the picture are definitely Bailey Howell and Sam Jones (in back of the main combatants). There were only two seasons when Wilt still played for Philly and Bailey Howell was with the Celtics: 1966-67 and 1967-68.
Great find on your part.
Sam
