WEEI

By: DJ Bean

Making his weekly appearance on The Big Show, Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said that the Celtics, who currently sit seventh in the Eastern Conference with a 14-13 record, "have a tendency to play down to their level of competition," and that he has questioned the team's resolve in the past before seeing them elevate their level of play in the postseason.

Asked about coach Doc Rivers calling out the team's toughness at points this season, Ainge didn't hold back in saying that the Celtics tend to underachieve during the regular season.

"I think it's just focus. I don't know if it's toughness, although I guess it is mental toughness. We do know that this team has the ability to play at a very high level," Ainge said. "They've shown that, and this isn't just happening this year. Last year we started out 13-17, and I didn't think that we had any resolve at that time, and then I thought we had as much resolve as any team I've ever been around the second half of the season, and the same thing the year before when we went all the way to the NBA finals Game 7 against the Lakers. I thought our team in the regular season, we finished 27-27, I felt like we just didn't have that fight, what Doc might refer to as toughness, but then I thought that we played the best basketball of this six-year era since we've had KG. I thought that was the best basketball we've ever played, even to this day, was in the Orlando and Cleveland series.

"I know these players have it within them. I will never doubt that, because they've shown time and time [again] what they're capable of, but they also have a tendency to play down to their level of competition and to pace themselves, for lack of a better term, throughout the course of the regular season."

The Celtics last night, and Danny was at the game, played down to the Clippers level. Unfortunately, it was the Clippers of yesteryear.

Can we turn the corner consistently? Sure. But to make that comment now? After getting demolished by the best team in basketball? Sounds like hubris to me.

Saturday will tell us something. GSW is playing very well. If we get our asses kicked twice in a row by superior teams, then we're not playing down to our competition, we're just playing down...

bob,

The Danny quote had to have been from before getting demolished by the best team in basketball. . .

" . . . Danny Ainge said that the Celtics, who currently sit seventh in the Eastern Conference with a 14-13 record, "have a tendency to play down to their level of competition, . . ."

Post demolition record: 14-14

All fairness to Danny, it was posted - THU, 12/27/2012 - 6:10PM - before the game.

However Danny needs to stop looking backward to assess this team currently. He needs to focus on the here and now. What was last year...was last year.

Spot on Gyso!

By the way how much snow did you get up there? I was watching the weather channel yesterday and was thinking of you. I heard it was really coming down hard.

112288,

We got maybe a foot, it is hard to tell. We had more than 20 MPH wind with gusts in the 30's. That left some spots bare of snow and some spots with snow drifts.

I have a small John Deere tractor with a 44" snow blower attachment. I had replaced one idler bearing on my blower belt assembly last week, but the tension idler froze up just before dark yesterday just as I was finishing up my second time out. That caused it to throw the belt every time I got into a little depth. I will have to replace the idler and probably get a new belt. The blower unit is 4 or 5 years old, so I guess it was due.

Anyway, that left me with this morning's cleanup duty using my backup walk-behind, open to the weather, 24" snowblower. I got more than one facefull, given the still over 15 MPH winds!! affraid

Wow, it must be beautiful up there! I fell in love with Maine last summer. It has beautiful forest and the coast line is truly New England. I loved Kennebunkport.

You have some nice equipment. I had a Torro ..I think it was about 28" catch...8 HP. But I know what you mean about the wind and blowing snow in your face. Many times I come in and I look like Jack Nicholson in the Shinning when he got lost in the maze.

Expecting snow on Long Island tomorrow. Could be a little...could be a lot...... depending where the storm intensifies. But I understand New England could be hit again.

Get some hot coco and sit by the fire and watch some Celtic basketball!
