The NBA has announced that Rajon Rondo has been suspended from the Boston Celtics' game against the New York Knicks on Monday because of his contact with a referee Saturday and failure to cooperate with a league investigation.

The incident occurred in the third quarter of the Celtics' win on Saturday when Rondo was whistled for an offensive foul.

I watched that game, there was nothing after that foul. Investigation - my ass.

Completely agree....WTF are they talking about?

This is exactly the kind of BS that deteriorates the relationship between refs and players. Rondo is an all star and one of the best players in the NBA, yet gets thrown around like a rag doll and gets very very few calls.

Rondo isnt even in the top 50 guards in fouls drawn in NBA - with such standouts as: Dion Waiters, Marco Bellineli, and Shannon Brown with more FT attempts than Rajon. Hell, Tyreke Evans has missed 18 games and has 8 more FTA than Rondo.

Such bullshit.

How about they suspend the ref for that bonehead mistake he made....there is no way in hell that could be an offensive foul on Rondo.

May not have been a good call by the ref, but Rondo better wise up and fast. The refs are always going to get calls wrong in basketball, but Rondo bumping the ref, however minimal, is plain stupid.

why didn't the ref throw him out then? Supposedly Danny Ferry handed the ref a copy of the game to send to league office

Rajon Rondo was suspended one game for bumping official
NEW YORK -- The NBA suspended Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo for one game Monday for making contact with a game official and failure to cooperate with a league investigation.

Rondo will serve his suspension during Boston's visit to the New York Knicks on Monday night at Madison Square Garden.

Whistled for an offensive charge with 3:19 remaining in the third quarter of the Celtics' 89-81 win over the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday, Rondo made contact with official Rodney Mott while protesting the call. The Celtics had just capped a 19-point rally with Rondo feeding Jared Sullinger for the go-ahead basket on the previous Boston possession.

This is the fourth suspension in less than one year's time for Rondo, including his third for incidents involving game officials. Rondo was suspended two games for throwing a ball at a game official in Detroit in February, then served a one-game suspension for bumping an official in Atlanta during a Eastern Conference quarterfinal series against the Hawks. In late November, Rondo was suspended two games for an incident with Brooklyn's Kris Humphries that saw the two enter the stands during a physical confrontation.

well... that was a bonehead call.

The correct call was made by the referee. You can't tell from the video that was posted but Rondo stepped into Smith and initiated contact with his right shoulder. Under a circumstance like this, you cannot make any contact with the referee. These are all self made suspensions for Rondo.

It really wasn't much; Smith didn't even appear to think anything of it, but the league sure did. As Doc said when asked about it, however, you create your reputation and you then have to live with it. Unfortunately this is the kind of thing Rondo brings on himself because of past actions. He's one of the top PG's in the game, but he needs to cut the crap and change the perception of himself he's created so this kind of thing stops.

I'm not sure I understand. You wrote "...You can't tell from the video..." so, how can you tell what RR did or didn't do? Do you, by any chance, have additional cams shooting from different angles? If so, you should've provided that footage to the league as evidence.

Also, it seems like the league just discredited that ref: if he did nothing after a physical contact with a player it means that in his judgement there was nothing. OTOH, there's a simple explanation: RR bumped him so hard that he forgot the rules due to concussion and momentary lost of memory. OK, now I understand...
