Rapid Reaction: Bulls 100, Celtics 99 (OT)

By Chris Forsberg | ESPNBoston.com

BOSTON -- Rapid reaction after the Chicago Bulls defeated the Boston Celtics 100-99 in overtime on Friday night at TD Garden:

Marco Belinelli hit a desperation, 14-foot turnaround jumper with 3.1 seconds to play as the Celtics absorbed a stomach punch after fighting valiantly all night. In regulation, it was Rajon Rondo who went into national-TV mode while scoring a season-high 30 points on 12-of-21 shooting with seven assists, two steals, and two rebounds over 42 minutes before fouling out with 1:16 remaining in overtime. Jason Terry hit a couple monster shots in overtime, including a go-ahead 16-footer with 12 seconds to play, but Belinelli spoiled it all. Richard Hamilton scored a team-high 20 points for the Bulls, who got monster double-doubles from Carlos Boozer (19 points, 20 rebounds) and Joakim Noah (14 points, 13 rebounds). Kevin Garnett registered 16 points and seven rebounds, while Paul Pierce added 13 points, six rebounds, and three assists.

TURNING POINT I: BOSTON RALLIES AHEAD
Trailing the entire game -- and by as much as 10 -- the Celtics jumped on Rondo's back and forced a 74-74 tie after his finger roll with 7:03 to play. Boston finally surged ahead with a Rondo free throw with 4:37 to go, but it was a back-and-forth battle the rest of the way. Rondo worked a little elbow pick-and-roll with Garnett and when Kirk Hinrich went under the screen, he splashed a 20-foot jumper for his 30th point and an 86-84 lead with 36.6 seconds to play. It should have been enough...

TURNING POINT II: C'S CAN'T LOCK IT UP
Boozer and Hinrich both missed the front end of two free throws and the Celtics had a chance to salt the game away with a two-point lead and possession with 12 ticks to go. Instead, Rondo made a terrible decision to inbound the ball to Pierce on the sideline. He was immediately trapped, forcing a jump ball situation with Joakim Noah. The Bulls won the tip, hustled the other way, and Hinrich hit a gutsy 15-foot jumper after scooping up a loose ball with two seconds to play. Boston couldn't generate a quality look and settled for an off-balance, off-target heave from Garnett at the end of regulation.

TURNING POINT III:
The Bulls were down two with under two minutes to go in the extra session when Jimmy Butler converted an alley-oop feed from Noah, then added two freebies after drawing the loose-ball foul on Rondo that ended his night. The Celtics hung around and got possession with 20.6 seconds to go down a point. Terry splashed his 16-footer, but it only set up Belinelli's heroics off a mad scramble to simply get up a shot as Boston's defense swarmed the Bulls.

BULLPEN BARBOSA GETS A SPOT START
With Avery Bradley sidelined with a rib injury, Leandro Barbosa drew his second start of the season. He picked up two fouls in the first four minutes, limiting his floor time, but he finished with five points on 2-of-6 shooting with three rebounds and an assist over 14:44.

WHAT IT MEANS
That's one of the toughest losses the Celtics have absorbed this season. Boston fought throughout regulation and had the game pretty well in hand before Noah generated the late-game jump ball. Boston's defense had the Bulls bottled up on their final possession, but Belinelli willed in the tough jumper. The Celtics went 3-2 on a five-game homestand and now head out for a brief two-game trip with stops in Detroit (Sunday) and Cleveland (Tuesday) before another national TV battle with the visiting Knicks on Thursday.

A. SHERROD BLAKLEY

Bulls down Celtics in OT slugfest

All the recipes for a big night from the recently-named all-star starter.

And Rondo, true to form, didn't disappoint with a season-high 30 points to go with seven assists.

But the best of Rondo wasn't good enough to get the victory as the Celtics suffer a 100-99 overtime loss to the Chicago Bulls with Carlos Boozer (19 points, 20 rebounds) and Joakim Noah (14 points, 13 rebounds) leading the way.

Chicago's Marco Belinelli drilled a 14-foot fadeaway jumper with 3.1 seconds to play in overtime for the game-winning basket. Boston quickly in-bounded the ball to Courtney Lee, who dribbled up court and launched a 3-pointer that he unsuccessfully tried to bank in as time expired.

In addition to getting a big game from Rondo who fouled out with 1:16 to play in overtime, Boston also got a strong game from Jared Sullinger who had seven points and 15 rebounds before he too joined Rondo on the bench after picking up his sixth personal foul with 50 seconds to play.

Making Friday's win even tougher to swallow was that the C's made a slew of defensive stops in the fourth despite playing the entire game without their best defender Avery Bradley who was out with a rib injury.

Boston did not take its first lead of the night until Rondo made a free throw with 4:37 to play in regulation that gave the C's an 80-79 lead.

The two teams went back and fourth until Kevin Garnett made a pair of free throws with 20.1 seconds to play in regulation that gave the C's an 88-85 lead in the fourth.

After Chicago's Kirk Hinrich made a free throw to make it an 88-86 game, the Celtics called a time-out.

Out of the time-out, Bulls center Joakim Noah forced a jump ball between himself and Paul Pierce with 9.4 seconds to play

Noah won the jump ball, and after a mild scramble at the other end of the floor, Hinrich hit the game-tying jumper with two seconds to play.

Garnett's off-balance jumper was well off the mark as time expired in regulation.

C's guard Leandro Barbosa got his second start of the season in place of Bradley who was out because of a rib injury suffered in Boston's 90-78 loss to New Orleans on Wednesday.

And it didn't take long for the Bulls to take advantage of the Celtics playing without Bradley, their best perimeter defender.

Chicago guard Richard Hamilton, the player Bradley would have opened the game guarding, didn't waste much time going to work against Barbosa who is at least five inches shorter.

Hamilton's ability to operate in the post against the smaller Barbosa allowed the Bulls to control the action most of the night. Hamilton finished with 20 points.

In addition to that, not having Bradley meant that the C's were without their best on-the-ball-defender whose ability to pressure guards the length of the floor takes time off the shot clock and even more important, pressure off the C's defense.

On Friday, Chicago's guards brought the ball up court with little to no pressure all game.

Even without Bradley, the Celtics managed to stay within striking distance most of the night.

Boston fell behind by as many as 10 points in the first quarter before cutting Chicago's lead to 23-19.

A 4-0 spurt to start the quarter tied things up, but the Bulls - as they did all night - responded with a 13-4 scoring binge of their own to regain control.

Later in the game, a jumper by Brandon Bass cut Chicago's lead to 58-56. Bulls forward Carlos Boozer turned it over which gave Boston a chance to tie the game or take the lead.

However, a cross-court pass to Pierce from Rondo bounced off Pierce's knees and went out of bounds.

On the ensuing possession, Noah scored on a lay-up and the Celtics spent the bulk of the third quarter trying to cut into a multiple-possession deficit.

Boston continued to scrap in the fourth, even cutting it to 70-68 with a Garnett jumper, at the 10:06 mark.

Bulls head coach and former C's assistant Tom Thibodeau did the same thing he did whenever the Celtics seemed to be tilting the game's momentum towards the home team - he called a time-out.

And just about every time he did so, the Bulls would respond with a positive play to re-establish their control of the game.

RAJON RONDO NOT ENOUGH TO STOP CHARGING BULLS

By Mike Petraglia

Marco Belinelli‘s jumper from 14 feet as he was falling to the ground with 3.1 seconds left in overtime lifted the Bulls to a stunning 100-99 win over the Celtics Friday night at TD Garden. Courtney Lee‘s desperation shot off the glass missed as time expired. Jason Terry hit a wide open jumper with 12.5 seconds left in overtime to put Boston on top before the circus shot fell through for the Bulls, who improve to 23-15 on the season.

Rajon Rondo finished with a season-high 30 points before fouling out in overtime. Rondo appeared to have given the Celtics the biggest shot of the night when he hit a wide open 20-foot jumper with 36.6 seconds left to put the Celtics up, 86-84. But Kirk Hinrich drained a jumper with 2.0 seconds left to force overtime.

Kevin Garnett had 11 of his 16 points in the fourth to lead a second-half comeback. Before fouling out late in overtime, Jared Sullinger had 15 rebounds off the bench for the Celtics, who lost their second straight after a six-game winning streak. Boston finished its season-long homestand 3-2. Rip Hamilton had 20 points while Carlos Boozer (19 points, 19 rebounds) and Joakim Noah (14, 13) each had double-doubles to lead the Bulls.

Chicago came out and took control early, leading 17-7. The Celtics responded with a 10-2 run but still trailed 23-19 after 12 minutes. The Bulls led 45-39 at the half. Rondo carried the Celtics through three quarters, making 9-of-14 shots and scoring 21 points. Pierce and Garnett were ice cold through three quarters, combining to shoot 4-for-22.

Entering the fourth, the Celtics trailed, 68-62, as Carlos Boozer had 17 points 15 rebounds while holding Kevin Garnett to 1-of-10 shooting.

But Garnett made his first shot of the fourth quarter to keep the Celtics within six, 70-64. Garnett drilled his next shot, a jumper from the top of the circle with just over 10 minutes left to draw the Celtics to within two, 70-68, capping a 6-0 spurt to open the period. With 7:03 remaining, Rondo hit a layup to tie the game, 74-74 as the Celtics opened the fourth on a 12-6 run.

But Hamilton responded immediately with a jumper from the top of the key to put the Bulls back on top. Kirk Hinrich followed with a three with just over six minutes left to expand Chicago’s lead to five. But Rondo responded with four of the next five points, tying the game, 79-79, with two free throws with five minutes left.

Rondo then gave Boston its first lead of the night, 80-79, by hitting one of two free throws with 4:37 left. Hamilton’s layup with 3:51 left put Chicago back on top. After Garnett hit one of two free throws to tie the game, Jimmy Butler hit a pair of free throws with 3:15 left to put the Bulls ahead, 83-81. Pierce’s free-throw line jumper with 3:02 left tied the game again, 83-83.

After Noah hit one of two, Garnett tied the game, 84-84, also hitting one of two free throws with 2:20 left. Following a miss by Hamilton, Rondo took the ball up the court and the Bulls defense backed off. He stepped back and nailed a jumper to put the Celtics on top. Boozer was fouled by Pierce with 22.5 seconds left and hit only one of two to close the gap to 86-85. Garnett was fouled with 20.1 seconds left and hit both free throws to put Boston up 88-85.

Rondo gave a foul on Hinrich with 12.1 left and the Bulls guard made just one of two, making it 88-86. Noah forced a jump ball with Pierce with 9.4 seconds left. The Bulls won the tip and Marco Belinelli fed Hinrich for the game-tying shot with 2.0 seconds left. Rondo inbounded to Garnett at the top of the circle but his fallaway jumper didn’t draw iron to force OT.

Noah hit 1-of-2 free throws with 3:23 left in overtime to put the Bulls up, 89-88, but Pierce answered with a driving layup moments later to put Boston back on top. Boozer answered with 1-of-2 from the line with just under three minutes left to tie the game. Jimmy Butler’s dunk with 2:17 left put Chicago up two but Jason Terry answered with a three with 1:57 remaining. Butler came back with an alley-oop layup with 1:45 remaining, putting the Bulls on top, 94-93. Rondo fouled out with 1:16 left and Butler hit a pair of free throws, making it 96-93 Chicago.

Garnett answered with a jumper with 1:08 left to pull Boston within one, 96-95. Sullinger fouled out with 50.1 seconds remaining and Noah hit a pair of free throws to make it 98-95 Chicago.

Just my thoughts and observations on what has become the Celtic play all too often this year.

I have been at times a harsh critic of Rondo and I know a few people on the board have voiced their concerns that Rondo at times seems not to want to play at his peak, often times walking the ball down the court and at times settling for jump shots.

WELL...............for the first time I am not blaming Rondo for his often slow play or jump shooting from the outside. I believe he is doing this because of the following reasons:

1) Some of the players are too old to sustain long periods of time of pushing the ball quickly up the court and it is Rondo's way of giving them a blow.

2) I believe there are not enough players on the team that are creative or capable of moving without the ball and creating scoring opportunities in the paint and so we see guys shooting jump shots. I can name a hand full but I am sure you have identified those players already.

Pierce was that guy years ago but he has aged to a point that for the majority of the game he is putting up chuck/heave shots from outside many with no arc on his shots. Oh he'll try to drive in the paint at crunch time but often too little too late. We now live or die with Pierces jump shots.

Sad!

I agree!

Hey I rather watch the team and certain young key player develop as a unit and not trade them away i.e. Sullinger, Bradley, Lee, Melo and wait for some free agents over the summer. Then we'll have a kick ass team!

Last night in the D-League Fab Melo was 9-10 from field and 8-9 from FT line, had 3 blocks too, if I'm Ainge I bring him up a week after all-star game.

That was more like the way Rondo should be playing, hes got to take that 15 foot jumper, I don't care if he misses 4 or 5 in a row, hes got to keep on taking them.....hes able to get that clean look virtually anytime he wants. Jeff Green too, he can't be passive and play scared if he misses a few, if he had half of Pierces balls he could be an all star.....get in attack mode you wimp!!!

I love Sully, this kid already has the balls Jeff Green needs to grow, he will battle in that paint, hes gonna grow to be our double-double machine. I see no reason that Rondo and Sully with Avery Bradley and Green growing a pair of balls can't carry us going forward as Pierce and KG turn more into role players ala Jason Kidd. Great to see KG finally get his shot going in 4th, thats the mentality/attitude we need from Green. If I'm Doc I start Green, we need to get him off and Rondo and AB would have a more constant running threat, Pierce could be devastating vs the other teams second units, similar to Ginoblli.

just a contribution here or there and the C's win this one. the future is once again on display. the biggest problem this team has right now is playing 48 solid minutes. PP looked like he needed the night off. I like the idea of JG getting some starts. Doc needs to hit his refresh button so he can get some new, creative clues on how to structure his rotations. lots to like, little to hate, team has the potential to be great

POST GAME CHICAGO Empty Re: POST GAME CHICAGO

Post by bobheckler Sat Jan 19, 2013 2:15 pm

This was a painful loss for me, more painful than the Hornet one. If we were to play the Hornets in an unlikely 7 game series, there's no doubt in my mind they'd be lucky to win 1. I do not have that same confidence against a likely playoff rival Chicago. To win #18, we have to make it out of the east and last night's game doesn't make me feel confident we can do that. Sure, in a month or two from now I might feel different, but as of today, no.

The Chicago defense was phenomenal, as you would expect from a Thib team. Their rotations were swift, their feet moved, we had trouble penetrating and, when we missed our jumpshots, we were often one-and-done (Sully was the shining light here, as usual). They got their defensive rebounds. Our defense broke down on rotations to cover the cutter to the rim on double teams. Rondo and JET consistently played to the side of their man and let them drive into a lane instead of staying in front of them and not giving them a lane at all.

Chicago ran plays. They executed. They put the ball in the corner, dumped it down into a low post player (often Boozer) and then when we doubled him the player who got left went to the front of the rim and often got rewarded with a pass. We did a lot of one-on-one. So, who usually wins when 5 players play together as a team and the other one plays one-on-one? Four of their starters combined for 17 of their total 21 assists (4 for Boozer, 4 for Noah, 4 for Deng and 5 for Hinrich). No Rose, no problem. It's about the team executing plays and not one player. We were without Avery Bradley, but they were without Derrick Rose and only got 27 minutes out of an already questionable game-time player in Luol Deng and it didn't matter. Why? Because they executed plays and weren't individual player performance dependant. That sounds harsh, and I know it's a little overly dramatic, but how many times did we see Celtics try to do it on their own?

1. First witness for the prosecution: Paul Pierce. 13 points on 5-17. He couldn't hit his shots, I understand, but then do something else. In OT he drove to the lane and kicked out to KG, who drained it. There ya go! If you can't hit your jumpers tonight, then drive to the hoop and/or run the offense. Let's be clear, he played a lot of this game without Deng on him. He had 3 assists and 3 TOs. NOT a good game for the Captain, to say the least. Was there anybody in Boston, Chicago or out in TV land (which includes me) who didn't know the Celtics were going to run Pierce isos the last minute or two of regulation and in OT? Anybody? If the other team knows what you're going to do, doesn't that make you less effective, not more?

2. KG had one of the most irrelevant games I've ever seen him play until the 4th quarter and OT. He pulled it together, but Noah owned him for most of the game. He was still 5-16 from the field and 6-10 from the line and had a grand total 7 rebounds in 39 minutes. When he's not hitting his bread-and-butter 19 footer, his idea of changing up and aggressively attacking the hoop is to do a turnaround fadeaway from 14 feet. He is usually the tallest player on the floor, but he avoids contact. He prefers the step back, fadeaway jump shot from 14 than the step in 4 footer because he's going to get hammered on the 4 footer. He is NOT an offensive threat inside. In fact, he is pretty soft. How many layups and putbacks have we seen him miss the past few weeks because he can't wait to get the ball out of his hands?

3. Speaking of that twit (Noah, not KG) he had, I think, 1 bucket from the corner and the rest of his 6fgm were at or near the rim. He was often the recipient of the passes at the rim from the post I referred to above. He moved without the ball and played smart. He can shoot from mid-range but most of his damage is usually done around the basket. We knew that, we know that and we still didn't stop him. He annoys the hell out of me. I want buy him a gift certificate to the Marquis de Sade Salon and Spa, but he has turned into a very good team basketball player and a superior high post passer.

4. Rondo was on fire last night. Any coaches or players in the NBA who still feel safe going under a pick set for Rondo had better think again. He has become a pretty reliable mid-range stop-and-popper. Of course, "safe" is a relative term. You might be safer letting him take the 16 footer than going over the pick and let him drive for the 4 footer. Even when he's driving, though, he tries too many circus shots as he shies away from the contact. Nevertheless, a Sportcenter night for Rondo. And he still ended the night a -3. Rondo fouled out. Why was he guarding Rip Hamilton so much?

5. Barbosa started and played 15 minutes. He was 2-5 (he had one roll off the rim, we had a lot of them in the first quarter or two). 15 minutes? For a starter? I know he picked up 4 fouls and that effected his playing time, but 15 minutes? It's almost like Doc said "I heard everybody complain about not playing Barbosa enough, I heard the trade rumor, so I started him the next game. Are you happy now?". As far as the fouls go, two of them were ridiculous. I've never seen a 9 year veteran get hit with two rookie fouls like that. He was the only starter with a positive +/-. One time he got the ball and ran it over halfcourt. He was at the top of the key with 21 seconds left on the clock.

6. JET played ok, other than the abovestated defensive inclinations.

7. Lee had a very good game. He rebounded well, he defended well, he ran well and had 3 steals. He was a pest on defense and you couldn't take your eyes off him on offense because if you did he was on the move.

8. I thought Sully had a pretty damn good game too. 15 boards, 5 offensive. He played good D on Boozer too (as good as anybody can play that truckload). Sully is our only consistent inside threat and that's not enough.

9. Speaking of Boozer, he and Rondo were the most dominating players on the court last night. 20 rebounds (6 offensive), 4 assists, 19 points on 8-17 shooting from everywhere. Sully needs to watch a lot of Boozer video. He'll learn a ton because they have similar games and skills, have similar bodies (Sully's a bit beefier) and similar limitations (neither of them are greased lightning nor high-flyers). I love Sully and I absolutely quiver at the thought of him turning into Boozer.

10. Thib outcoached Doc. Thib has his guys working like a well-oiled machine and Doc is having trouble getting his players to move on offense and defense. Thib was down two key players and they still executed. Doc's success seems to hinge on a 3rd year guard, who was out nursing a sore rib. In crunch time, Thib got them to run plays (and got the breaks that come with creating opportunities). Doc handed the ball to Pierce, who was having a horrendous game, and let him go schoolyard.

They got a couple of lucky breaks, like the deflection off Bellinelli than ended up in Hinrich's hands for the bucket, like Bellinelli having the mishandled entry pass bounce right up into his hands but make no mistake about it, they earned those bounces. Bellinelli took the ball fullcourt at a run and was in the paint when he got stripped. He didn't stop at the 3pt line and take a shot (which he is very capable of hitting) and which we probably would have done nor did he pull up for the mid-range shot to tie it. He had his sights on the iron and wasn't going to stop until somebody stopped him. That's the way to run it. Our fast breaks are either Rondo going all the way himself or Rondo pulling up at the top of the key and passing to his wingmen who are running to the corners instead of to the rim. Drives me crazy. Preferring a 3pt fga over a layup (and possible/probable foul) is NOT aggressive, high-percentage basketball, it is soft.

If there's some good news here it's that we got 91 fgas. That's good. The bad news, of course, is that we only shot 42%. They had 21 TOs, a lot of that was due to our defense creating deflections. That's more good news. The really bad news is that we only got 7 points off of those 21 TOs. That's really, really poor.

We need another inside threat. Sully can't do it all alone and Bass is on-and-off and KG likes the thin air out at 19' too much. We need someone who loves paint and isn't happy unless he's in it. We need another knockdown shooter. No, JET isn't him, neither is Barbosa, nor Bradley, nor Lee. JET's shot is too inconsistent and while Barbosa can shoot from the outside he's much more effective on the move going north-south than coming off of screens for jumpshots. Lee and Brad are defensive stars who can shoot, not shooters who can defend.

It was a great game, from a pure basketball junkie standpoint. I hated it with a passion as a green-blooded Celtic fan because it highlighted all our weaknesses and shortcomings.

Sorry to be so depressing here.

Hi,
Unfortunately, Celtics lost. But I'd consider it a victory.
The whole team was streamlined and determined (unlike many other games this season).
PP and KG were trying their best despite miserable performance. BTW, if it was 7-game series law of averages would prevail, which means PP would have around 20 points.
RR was scoring at will. Neither KH nor Nate could stop him. His defense is still "limping" but it was better than in many recent games. Have to give him a credit - he kept his cool after a few hits he's got last night.
This brings me to the sore subject of zebras. Celtics would've won had the zebras kept their eyes open.
But I digress. The point is, IMO, all members of the team played the same tune and did it with gusto. And this is very important: you can sign Lebron, KD and CP3(theoretically) for vet. minimum but you can not buy chemistry and hearts of the team.

http://redsarmy.com/2012/04/30/getting-to-know-nba-ref-marc-davis/

The official who tossed Rajon Rondo from last night's game is no stranger to controversy, publicity or the Celtics.

Many NBA analysts claim Marc Davis is one of those officials who love and seek out the spotlight. During an appearance this morning on WEEI, disgraced former referee Tim Donaghy said Davis has a large ego and "rabbit ears."

While Rondo was upset with Davis' refusal to call a jump ball in the final minute, the play that started the anger came at the 2:20 mark. Davis pointed in Atlanta's direction on an extremely close out-of-bounds play. Davis didn't seek help from a colleague and bypassed instant replay. We know what happened next.

Let's go back a couple weeks when the Hawks and Celtics played in Boston on April 11. The Celtics won 88-86 in OT despite some horrific calls by Davis and his colleagues.

Mr. Triple Double went back into the video vault and edited together all the questionable calls. There's 6 minutes worth. Of KG's six fouls, Marc Davis whistled 4. There are also several instances where KG was fouled right in front of Davis and either a) the outside official made the call or b) no call was made.

Not enough evidence?

Let's jump back to 2009 when reports surfaced that Davis is a Bulls fan and his family didn't hide it during the Celtics/Bulls playoff series in 2009:

Two of the referees in Game 4 of the Bulls-Celtics series reportedly are Chicago residents whose families at the game were wearing Bulls gear.

According to the Boston Herald, a member of the Celtics' traveling contingent was taken aback at the sight of the crew exiting the United Center after the game with family members who were Bulls fans. The Boston Globe, citing an NBA source, reported that the officials were Marc Davis and Dan Crawford.

Are NBA officials allowed to be "fans" of teams?

Davis has another incident unrelated to the Celtics that deserves mention. He allegedly threatened to whup Allen Iverson's ass in 2005:

Iverson, upset about calls, challenged referee Marc Davis after the 94-88 loss on Saturday, and said Davis responded by saying he would "whup my ass."

Iverson had to be restrained by teammates, and a few minutes later was seen heading in the direction of the referees' dressing room before general manager Billy King interceded and calmed him down.

Rivers submits video of jumpball to league
January 19, 2013, 1:49 pm

WALTHAM -- Doc Rivers will submit game tape to the NBA in response to a jumpball call on Friday against the Chicago Bulls.

The Celtics led by two points with just seconds to play in regulation when Rajon Rondo inbounded the ball to Paul Pierce. The Bulls trapped Pierce and the refs whistled for a jumpball. The Bulls won the jumpball and hit the game-tying bucket, forcing overtime and eventually beating the Celtics, 100-99.

Rivers believes Rondo signaled for a timeout before the jumpball was called and that Pierce was fouled on the possession.

"He was fouled, there's no doubt about that," Rivers said prior to Saturday's practice. "I also thought if you watch it, Rondo absolutely called a timeout and it's clear. He was literally an inch away from Marc Davis' face and did it twice. And then you can see Sean Corbin's hand go up for a jumpball. So it was clear that, in my opinion, he was fouled, number one. And number two, we got the timeout and it wasn't called."

Last season Rondo received a one-game suspension for bumping Davis during a playoff game. Rivers does not think that played into the situation on Friday.

"I hope there's never any grudges and stuff like that being held," he said. "It is a human game, and so you do know that. I think our league is better than that."

Rivers is selective in what film he submits to the league. He tries not contest bad calls even the human element of the game, noting, "We miss shots, they miss calls." So what kind of outcome is he hoping for when he sends in this tape?

"I feel better," he said.

Thanks for the info bob, I have said years ago and during last years playoffs what a joke the refereeing is, its so bad I'm kind of numb to it.....but it really stinks and Stern is clueless and has constantly done nothing for years, at least the moron is consistant.
