Doc obviously heard me. He's starting Pierce at SG. Tall ball.

Except for that one fake-and-drive by Zelller, I'm liking the Celtics' defense. They're bothering a lot of Cavs shots and forcing some awful ones..

Hi Sam,

Well, it's looking a lot better than small ball so far. However Doc still has his bangers sitting on the bench. I hope he uses them some tonight.

That Zeller kid looks good, both rebounding and shooting.

Avery shows some signs of waking up, although he has already missed a wild layup, and I've seen him advance the ball by pass only once so far. It's one thing not to have your regular PG, but it's another to put any confidence in a backup who has no aptitude for advancing the ball by pass.

How not to finish a quarter, although I admire the confidence displayed by Williams in taking what seemed to be the last Celtics shot.

With 23 seconds to go in the first quarter Randolph makes his earliest appearance ever as a Celtic.

Pretty decent first quarter but they should never let that last shot by the Cavs get off. (I just felt like ending a sentence with a preposition - take that Mrs. Jachson [my old English teacher]).

Tommy made reference to the fact that Shavlik has too much motion in his free throw shots.

This is the backcourt pairing I've been waiting to see: Pierce and Crawford. Good instincts for ball distribution. Can fill it up. Bigger than their respective opponents, which helps on the boards. Defensively underrated.

Randolph playing terrific defense and rebounding. We're out to a 12 point lead.

Who'd a thunk it?

So Randolph goes out and our 12 point lead shrinks down to 6. Coincidence?

Berlin, Tom Heinsohn felt that the reason Randolph wasn't in the game was because they wanted to play zone and he hasn't had experience with it.

Why whatever do you mean, Rosalie. The Celtics only have 4 turnovers. Oh wait, I forgot to look at Pierce's line. The Celtics have 10 turnovers.

For the half, I saw Bradlee advance the ball by pass exactly once. He either passes laterally or backward every time.

I wish they kept stats on abortive fast breaks. Doc said before the game that, due to the two games in two nights (snicker, snicker on my part—like that's a big deal), they wouldn't be pushing the ball as hard tonight. Despite that comment, they're trying to run every time they can. Only 8 fast break points and anumber of turnovers to show for it, but I like their energy.

Up by one at the half. If Randolph sits for the rest of the game and we lose I'm not going to bother staying up to watch these games. If Doc doesn't care, why should I?
I'll watch the playoffs - if we make them.

What we desperately need is rebounding, blocking out and stiff defense around the rim. These are exactly the things that Randolph does well. As far as I'm concerned, until KG comes back Randolph should be our #1 big.
