Matty, you're probably right about the salary dump. But Danny's got a decent track record in evaluating how certain guys (Crawford? Humphries?) can thrive in a Celtics uniform under Brad more than they thrived elsewhere. This trade could be a precursor to waiving Brooks too and consolidating the backcourt to include Bradley, Crawford, Bayless, Pressey and (when he returns) Rondo.

I missed most of the first half, but I can't believe they don't have 7'0" Kiwi Steven Adams in there against us more.

So, the Lee for Bayless trade knocks another $2.1M off the payroll.

That's another player. Not a great player, but a player.

Another way to look at it is that Danny can trade a player for a better player, who costs a little more, without going over the cap.

And, because Bayless is in a contract season and Lee is not, the Celts could save another $5 million next season.

And the season after that, and the season after that.

Bob, I believe it's because the Celts are back on their heels, being afraid he'll blow right past them for the bucket and possible "and one."

Here's what a scouting report says about Bayless:

Jerryd Bayless, G (6-3, 200). “He can attack and get to the line,” the first executive said… Bayless shot 2.5 free throws per 36 minutes this year and is an 83.6% shooter from the line… “Leave him open behind the arc and he’ll hit the 3-ball,” the first executive added… “He kind of keeps you on your heels,” the second executive said. “He’s a little powerhouse.”… The first executive added that Bayless can help Conley get off the ball because he is essentially a second point guard on the floor when they’re in the game together… The Grizzlies’ offense scores 110.2 points per 100 possessions when the duo is in the backcourt at the same time. However, they allow 100 points per 100 possessions defensively.

Matty, sorry for the slowdown in play-by-play. Just look at the box score and you'll see the reason. Was it Little Jackie Wilson who sang "Higher and Higher." That describes the Thunder's scoring. Nice penetration by Jeff.

It almost looks as though garbage time for both teams has started early. Playground ball.

One problem with Kelly is that he doesn't do a particularly good job of using his height. Watch how the big guys on the Thunder use their arms to extend the ball beyond the opponent's reach on layups. Kelly really does "short arm" layups and make it easy for the defense to block his layups.

I hope Jeff's okay after that non-foul.

Kelly didn't raise his arms on the penetration defense.

That's 101.

Oklahoma City's a great place.  I spent a year there one night. (Thank you W. C. Fields.)

I have a friend who lives in Oklahoma, Tulsa to be precise. He keeps inviting me.

I keep telling him I'd love to but I have to wash my hair.

Too many lazy cross-court passes by the Celts in most of their games.
