Seven Grizzlies have stomach virus

Tenn. -- Seven members of the Memphis Grizzlies now are dealing with a stomach virus, and their status is uncertain for Friday's game with the Boston Celtics.

The Grizzlies announced Thursday that guards Tony Allen, Courtney Lee and Beno Udrih, forwards Jon Leuer and Jarnell Stokes, center Kosta Koufos and guard/forward Quincy Pondexter all are ill and are questionable for the Boston game.
Pondexter and Stokes are new additions to the injury list. The other five Grizzlies didn't play in a 96-92 loss to the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday due to the virus that kept them away from the arena.
The Grizzlies also waived guard Kalin Lucas and center Hassan Whiteside on Thursday, a day after signing them for protection in Toronto.

On the bad news front (for Boston), the Grizzlies still have the most effective post tandem in Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph, who will be the sternest possible test for the Celtics' post defense, and Mike Conley, their sneaky-good point guard.

They'll still be an imposing load for Boston to handle. Gasol and Randolph play below the rim and use their ample low center of gravity to get great position. For this game anyway, Jared Sullinger may wish he had the weight back that he lost in the offseason. I expect to see a lot of Brandon Bass for this game, and maybe even a Gerald Wallace sighting.

then we need to run, and run some more. Not only because they are shorthanded but like you say before they cast their anchors in the paint.

Randolph is a presence but I'd love to see him gassed heading into the 4th quarter.

Great point -- since they're short-handed, run them ragged. It will be interesting to see if they push the pace.

This may also turn out to mean in a few days the stomach virus may be going through the Celtics roster........
