A person with knowledge of the situation confirmed that the Thunder, Brooklyn Nets and Charlotte Hornets are discussing a deal that would send Nets center Brook Lopez to the Thunder, Hornets guard Lance Stephenson to his hometown Nets and the Thunder's Jeremy Lamb and the Nets' Jarrett Jack to the Hornets. If the deal remains in its current form, the person told USA TODAY Sports that Thunder center Kendrick Perkins likely would go to the Nets as well. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the private nature of trade talks. USA Today Sports - See more at: http://hoopshype.com/rumors.htm#sthash.965AJf75.dpuf

Perkins and Garnett may enjoy playing with each other for the last 40 games of this season, but such a reunion is not likely to change the fate of the Nets in the second half of the season.

Perkins has been in the league now for about 10 years and is a great example of a guy taking what he is good at (playing decent man to man defense in the paint, making his team better with his attitude and hustle) into a very respectable career.

He has always been an offensive liability because of poor hands and too many illegal screens, but a 10 year NBA career has been a very nice accomplishment for the big, heavy kid that he was at 19 years old.

I'm pretty certain that Perk's "claim to fame" in high school was his offense. I believe he averaged something like 30 ppg (probably in his senior year). I kept watching for him to excel offensively for the Celts, but he fooled me and came in through the back door labeled "defense."

Report: Lopez-Stephenson-Perkins 3-way trade 'dead'
By James Herbert | NBA writer
January 16, 2015 10:06 am ET

The potential three-way trade between the Oklahoma City Thunder, Brooklyn Nets and Charlotte Hornets is "dead, at least for now," according to the Charlotte Observer's Rick Bonnell.

The trade reportedly would have looked something like this:

Thunder receive: Brook Lopez

Nets receive: Lance Stephenson, Kendrick Perkins

Hornets receive: Jeremy Lamb, Jarrett Jack, Grant Jerrett

About nine hours before the Charlotte Observer reported it was dead, it reported that "numerous non-Hornets NBA sources" thought the talks had gone too far for nothing to get done. Things can extremely change quickly in the NBA.

The discussions had gotten serious on Thursday afternoon, according to Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski, but they were unable to reach an agreement at night. Oklahoma City and Charlotte were satisfied, but Brooklyn held up the deal, per ESPN's Chris Broussard. The Nets' "biggest hurdle," according to Yahoo Sports, is "their willingness to take on" Stephenson. They are "trying to change some players in the deal," according to ESPN.

Brooklyn is trying to move Lopez as soon as possible, according to Yahoo Sports, and has told teams that it wants to get this done by the weekend. It's also reportedly trying to find a trade partner to take Perkins in exchange for "an established player." That might be difficult. The Denver Nuggets and Miami Heat have reportedly expressed interest in Lopez, too.

It's awkward for all involved that these details have been made public. This is life in the league in 2015, though. And although we're hearing that this trade is "dead" at the moment, it could be resuscitated at any time.

MY NOTE:  It's only 'mostly dead'.  It isn't 'Princess Bride' dead until after Danny has sniffed it and decided there was nothing in it for him.  Then there's nothing left to do except go through his pockets for loose change.  Here's another 3-way deal Danny facilitated
