The Boston Celtics are one of five NBA teams worth more than $2 billion, according to Forbes' 18th annual NBA team valuations released Wednesday.
Forbes' list has the Celtics ranked No. 4 in value at $2.1 billion behind only the New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers and Chicago Bulls. The Los Angeles Clippers round out the top five.
According to Forbes' estimates, the Celtics' value grew from $1.7 billion last year to its current number of $2.1 billion -- which is almost six times what the current ownership group paid for the team in 2002 ($360 million).
Forbes valued 13 franchises at $1 billion or more, including the Golden State Warriors, Brooklyn Nets, Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks, Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs, Cleveland Cavaliers and Phoenix Suns.
