Celtics' Thomas named Eastern Conference Player of the Week

BOSTON -- It looks like there was one more gift Isaiah Thomas during this holiday season with the NBA announcing on Monday that he was the Eastern Conference player of the week.
 
The 5-foot-9 guard led the Celtics to a 3-1 record this week, with all three wins coming on the road.
 
This week, Thomas led the East in scoring (33.3 points per game) and ranked sixth in assists (7.3 assists per game). The impressive week included him scoring a career-high 44 points, 36 coming in the second half, of Boston’s 112-109 overtime win at Memphis on Dec. 20. In a 117-112 loss to Oklahoma City, Thomas matched his season high with 10 assists.
 
The Western Conference player of the week was Russell Westbrook who averaged a league-high 41.0 points, 10.0 assists and 9.8 rebounds leading the Thunder to a 3-1 record which included a win over the Celtics.

A nice award for a really solid week of game performances. Thomas has improved his game this year beyond his scoring which makes his scoring easier this year. His passes are getting guys much better shots this year and his turnover rate is down by about a half T.O. per game from last year.

The Cs need this guy to stay healthy for the rest of the year as he may be our most valuable player. Perhaps we could have won all four games when he was injured a few weeks ago. He is the team's only "scorer" as has been mentioned on our board many times.
