In a somewhat surprising development, Shams Charania reports that the Celtics are signing Abdel Nader to a 4-year deal.

The Boston Celtics and 2016 second-round selection Abdel Nader have agreed in principle to a four-year contract worth $6 million, league sources told The Vertical.

His agent, Cervando Tejeda, has been in discussions to finalize the rookie deal, and Nader plans to sign on Friday

Nader, 23, was the No. 58 overall selection in last year’s draft and spent the past season with Boston’s NBA development league affiliate in Maine. He was the league’s Rookie of the Year, averaging 21.3 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.9 assists.

It isn’t clear yet what this signing could mean to the team’s plans for guys like Demetrius Jackson, Semi Ojeleye, or Guerschon Yabusele.

MY NOTE: Do not know what the fallout there will be to this, as the article ends with, but think of how players who can't make the squad but are being offered G-League contracts with Maine will think now, knowing that their dream could come true like Nader's. Congrats, kid. Now the job gets harder, you have to earn minutes.

I think it part reward for spending last year in Maine and part low cost end of the bench filler.

His low long-term salary can be used for sweetener in a trade. The low cost also can be easily waived if need be

I've been liking what I see from Nader, he can get better still and is a punishing driver with a 3 point stroke, he earned this.

The specifics aren't available yet, but I'll bet this contract is along the lines of Mickey's and Jackson's. 4 consecutive one-year deals with team options every year, first year at least partially guaranteed.

Anybody want to bet against me? LOL.

I had no doubt that the Cs would sign this guy, but I do not understand why he got a four year deal.

Perhaps Ainge has seen more of him and that he is more likely to play a bigger role than I was thinking?

Nader and Semi will be really nice end of the bench guys. Certainly better than Young and Mickey

These second round picks now get four year deals, with some of the subsequent years not guaranteed, at the team's option. This is because how the Greg Stiemsma deal went down years ago.

We lost Greg because Danny didn't lock him in long enough and we were cap limited. Once he got a deal from another team, we couldn't match and he was gone.

Danny rewards guys he likes with 4 year deals. Young and Jackson are good examples. If they develop nicely and create real value for themselves, they are under team control on a cheap contract for up to 4 years instead of the more normal 3. If they don't work out, the contract is not guaranteed for the full four years and they can be waived. Just another one of Danny's wrinkles that others will be copying, methinks.

I'd say Nader is much more promising then the other two but time will tell. At least I think that is what I heard on why he does the extra year.

what is the confusion about?

Young has been sent packing (though we still have his hold for now)....Nader replaces him on the roster.

why is it out of left field, it was an open secret he was coming in. Did it say anywhere that it was fully guaranteed? I doubt it is.

Young and now Green are most likely not in any plans.

There has been very little mention about Green since the season ended. My thought is that Brad has more and more say in who he has on his bench. It is easier for a guy like him to mold guys into what he wants instead of getting a guy with ten years experience who has his own ways.

i liked the Green signing last year, but I really see no place for him on this team now. Hayward is a shooter, Tatum looks like he may be used at times in that role, so where would Green go, the end of the bench. Seems he would be happier someplace else where he might get a shot. I know Danny
likes him, but there really is no room for him

Figured Semi would've gotten this contract but either makes sense. Maybe when Jackson's moved they'll have the space to do the same with him.

Theis is a new signing so he isn't going anywhere. The former German league DPOY is going to be needed.

Semi hasn't signed yet so he could get a 2 way contract if Jackson is kept otherwise Jackson is gone. Bird is another good candidate for the new 2 way contract.

I haven't seen any details of Theis' deal, but my money says he'll make the team. He's a veteran, even if it is a different league, and he's a defensive specialist. He's Jonas' replacement.

I'll bet Danny's not done.

Really beginning to wonder if Crowder will be here at the start of the season. Jackson too, although he is a backup for Thomas, who, by the way, is stirring the pot a lot these days. I know we have him on the cheap, but, he signed the contract and now all we are hearing about is the Brinks truck. Too much. Danny today said that he is not dealing with that right now, even mentioned his injury. So, Thomas had better get healthy or that money will be drying up slowly

I doubt there are any major deals coming myself. I see our roster as a finished product now.
Semi being signed and maybe Yabusele, sure. But other than that I doubt there are any moves, unless someone makes an offer Danny cannot refuse.

The current roster has been made in Brad's image. I know many want that big behemoth Center to move Horford to PF , But Horford has played primarily at center his whole NBA career. I think he is more of a typical NBA center NOW than he was when he first came into the League, due to the changes in the game.

lets talk about Brad's "position-less" NBA and not the old Positions.

we have a full roster, and we will be somewhere about $4-5M over the cap this year.

Sounds like a great contract. 1.5M for a guy who is a hard worker, knows the system, dont expect much and is somewhat proven consistent player.
