Celtics Announce 4-Game Preseason Schedule

BOSTON (CBS) — Celtics basketball is just around the corner.

The team announced their 2017 preseason schedule on Monday, which will tip off in just 56 short days. The preseason itself will be a little shorter as well, with only four games on the docket.


Boston will alternate home and away games against the Charlotte Hornets and Philadelphia 76ers this preseason, starting on October 2 against the Hornets at TD Garden. The Celtics will face the 76ers at the Wells Fargo Center on October 6 and host Philadelphia on October 9. Boston will conclude their preseason slate on the road against the Hornets on October 11 at the Spectrum Center.

Sean Grande and Cedric Maxwell will call all four preseason contests on the radio, with the first three games on 98.5 The Sports Hub and the preseason finale on 100.7FM WZLX.

While a shorter preseason slate may be welcomed by players and fans, the Boston coaching staff may want a little more time, with just six players returning from last year’s 53-win squad.

Let's get this show on the road!!! I hate summer, not being a huge Sox fan (please do not tell my sister, who is a diehard Red Sox lover), makes the summer very long. At least the Pats start preseason this week!!

Sounds like the kid is having one hell of a summer. He is out to show all who doubted his selection that they were all wrong. Looks like he had a great time in Africa, I think he shocked a few people there. Great for him. He looks bigger, stronger, and if at all possible, faster.
Can you tell I am dying for this season to get rolling???

Are they only playing 4 preseason games this year? Usually they play around 7

Looks that way, only four. They shortened the preseason, maybe not to the liking of coaches like Stevens who have so many new players. I wonder if there is more practice time, letting them in the gym alot earlier than before. It is right around the corner.

I know that Hayward has been here in Waltham shooting around with whoever is at the Celtics gym. I wonder about Tatum. I saw his Mom on television saying that she had bought a house here (his or hers I don't know). So maybe he is around here quietly working with other players at the Waltham facility. She was talking about the difference in the cost of housing here and from where they live now. I do believe she is a lawyer.

I have seen pictures of Hayward and Semi working out.

I think that the pre season has been cut back due to the NBA lengthening the regular season by a little bit more than a week to help eliminate so many back to back games and yet not stringing out the playoffs beyond where they usually end. This way they do not have to shorten the regular season schedule.

She is a lawyer. She was a single mother, who found out she was pregnant a few weeks after graduating High School. Worked multiple part-time jobs while raising her son, she attended college at night. 4 hours sleep, for her, was considered a quality night's sleep. She has 3 degrees now: one in Communications, one in Political Science and her law degree.

If he has her work ethic, we're in good shape indeed.

I think we have some real quality on this team today. These kids are so motivated that it is admirable. I am proud to call them both Celtics, let's hope they stay that way.

Is the regular season schedule out yet? My birthday gift is for a ticket to an early season game. I have to pick it out!!!

I love summer but October can't get here fast enough! I do have priorities and the Green are near the top.

The limited 4 game preseason is not an ideal situation for Boston because they have so many new players.  I think that guys will need to show what they can do during practice.  

With only 4 preseason games Brad is going to need to focus on his revamped lineup with two new starters.  He has to play them together extended minutes and this is likely to limit opportunities for the rookies in particular to see any meaningful court time  (tatum, Yabu, Zizic, Semi and Nadar) may have very limited opportunities to make a good impression.

So it is going to be well into the season before we see some of these guys get into a game.  Tatum is likely to be the first to see any action.
