Drummond hot at the foul line

In case you missed the box score from the Pistons game last night against the Bucks - Andre continued his much improved free throw shooting hitting on an astounding 14 of 16 - bringing his average up to .778.

They sure were with Rondo's entire career shooting free throws. We all thought, after his first couple years shooting them in the low 60's that he would improve. We know that didn't happen.

He was 2 for 4 tonight.

First 5 years were real bad - .371, .418, .389, .355, .386 - so even .500 is a significant plus - but certainly 10 games is way to few to base a seasonal prediction on.

Wilt Chamberlain had a 28 for 32 game at the line when he went for 100. Otherwise during his career he stunk.

If Drummond can sustain his improvement at the free throw line AND there is one guy who has helped him so much, this one guy (Drummond's mentor) may become the hottest property in the NBA.

So many games are won and lost at the free throw line at all levels of play that if a guy like Drummond can now get 7-8 extra points per game via free throws his team could win maybe 10 extra games per year.

If nothing else, the ability to hit free throws will allow him to stay in the game in the fourth quarter to play defense and rebound for his team which will further help the Pistons.

Steve,,, That was Wilts best ever year from the line - 10.4 made on 17 attempts (61.3% in 1961-62)
Wideclyde,,, I was thinking the same thing about his mentor, if any, getting real busy if Drummond continues to be successful at the line.

Wilt missed over 5,800 free throws in his career.

in his third season ( his 50+ PPG season) he missed over 500 and still scored more than 4000 points (80 games)

imagine if he could shoot.

Lets see where Drummond is in January. I'm betting he can't sustain over 60%.

I do not think that 60% is very good for any NBA player, but if Drummond can maintain even at only 60% that he becomes a much more valuable player to his team. This guy has a history of shooting way below 50%
for at least several of his NBA seasons. Improving to 60% will be a great stride forward for him.

Agree 60 % is terrible and I never said said that Drummond will maintain it rather quite the opposite.  He has played 10 games and shot 30 for 40 so far.  From now till the end of this calendar year there are 25 more games for Detroit. If he averages 4 FS a game and makes his more normal 50% ( and probably less) but say he makes 1/2 of these that would give him 80 for 140 (57%)  

Like I said I doubt come January he'll be at 50 %

But like anything he could have really gotten better and make me eat crow.....wouldn't be the first time.
