The New Orleans Pelicans have agreed to trade center Omer Asik, guards Tony Allen and Jameer Nelson and a protected 2018 first-round pick to the Chicago Bulls for forward Nikola Mirotic, a second-round pick and the right to trade second-round picks in the 2021 NBA draft, league sources tell ESPN.
The Bulls are expected to waive Allen and Nelson, the sources said.
New Orleans agreed to guarantee Mirotic's $12.5 million option for the 2018-19 season, clinching the deal, the sources said.
The first-round pick has "minimal" protections, the sources said.
The Bulls said Wednesday they were shutting down Mirotic until the trade deadline passed.
The Bulls thought they had a deal done Tuesday that would have sent Mirotic to the Pelicans, but Mirotic and his representatives nixed the arrangement, according to a source, because the team option for 2018-19 would not have been guaranteed.
Mirotic signed a two-year deal with the Bulls in August. He has thrived with the Bulls, averaging 16.8 points and 6.4 rebounds since missing the first 23 games of the season after a scuffle in practice with Bobby Portis left Mirotic with facial fractures and a concussion.

MY NOTE: I wonder how this affects their pursuit of Monroe? Chicago is expected to waive Tony Allen and Jameer Nelson. So, just incase Rozier and/or Smart are traded Danny can pick up Tony Allen with the DPE and squeeze opposing offenses to death like a python.

Re: Pelicans to acquire Nikola Mirotic for three players, first-round pick
This deal tells me they are probably going to also sign Monroe.. Asik was their BU center.
It will be interesting to see how much Monroe gets as the Pelicans have no cap space so they are very limited in what they can offer. They will not have enough money to resign him next year and resign Boogie.
He would be foolish to sign with the Pelicans.

More food for thought as the decision time nears for the C's. What will Danny do?

Regardless of how many minutes Asik has played the Pelicans had 2 centers and now they have none. Of Course Davis can play center as well although he is more of a PF. They have to get another center to compete.
Getting Monroe is huge for them. Also adding Nikola Mirotic was a great move because of the way he can shoot from deep.
