Jayson Tatum has lived up to his expecations during his rookie season and is now starting to add his name to the record books for his efforts.

When Jayson Tatum was drafted by the Boston Celtics, he knew he was joining a franchise with tremendous history, and whose record book was littered with some of the greatest players to ever play in the NBA.

Tatum's best days are indeed ahead of him, but the 6-foot-8 rookie is off to a promising start as he continues to etch his name into the franchise record book among first-year players.

He's close to achieving another first-year accomplishment in becoming just the ninth rookie in franchise history to score 1,000 or more points.

Tatum comes into tonight's game against Sacramento needing 22 points to join the Celtics' 1K club, adding to the narrative that the 20-year-old Tatum is among the best rookies in this franchise's storied history.

Last week, Tatum became the youngest player in franchise history to have a game of at least 20 points and 10 rebounds with his 23-point, 11-rebound performance in Boston's 100-99 win over Oklahoma City.

Tatum has been at his best when it matters most, leading all rookies and ranking third overall with a plus/minus in the fourth quarter of +165 which trails only Chris Paul (+173) and C.J. Miles (+168).

"I said it before, we're going to just keep throwing him to the wolves and keep going to him in those moments," said Celtics head coach Brad Stevens.

Here are five under-the-radar story lines heading into tonight's game between the Boston Celtics and the Sacramento Kings.

PROTESTERS, TENSE TIMES IN SACRAMENTO

The Sacramento Kings are used to playing before sparse crowds at Golden 1 Center, but the low turnout against Atlanta on Thursday was different.

Sacramento police prevented most fans from entering the Golden 1 Center by blocking the entrance amid safety concerns due to protests throughout the city and highways following the shooting death of Stephon Clark, by Sacramento police.

Police were responding to a 9-1-1 call regarding someone smashing the windows of cars. With a police helicopter flashing a spotlight on an individual on the move, officers eventually confronted Mr. Clark who at the time, was in his grandmother's backyard.

"Hey, Show me your hands. Stop, stop!" yelled one officer. "Show me your hands, gun, gun, gun!"

Moments later, 20 shots were fired – 10 by each officer.

When the officers eventually approached the 22-year-old Clark following the shooting, it was determined that he was dead. There was no gun found on him; only a cell phone.

BROWN'S RETURN?

The Boston Celtics have done a nice job of finding players to fill the void left when a starter has been out. But tonight looks like it'll be some good news on the health front for the Celtics with the likely return of Jaylen Brown. The Celtics' No. 2 scorer this season, Brown has missed the last six games following a concussion suffered on March 8 at Minnesota when he landed on his back after losing his grip on the rim following a dunk.

THE ROOKIE NO ONE'S TALKING ABOUT

Bogdan Bogdanovic is having a strong rookie season without hardly raising an eyebrow. The 6-foot-6 wing is averaging 11.8 points and 3.3 assists per game while shooting 39.7 percent from 3-point range. Drafted with the 27th overall pick by Phoenix in the 2014 NBA draft, his rights were traded to Sacramento in 2016.

THREE-POINT SHOOTING

The Boston Celtics could be in for a big night shooting from 3-point range tonight. The Celtics average 11.6 made 3-pointers per game which ranks sixth in the NBA. They face a Sacramento team that has been getting lit up all season from long range, allowing a league-high 12.2 made 3-pointers per game. Sacramento is on pace to become the first team in NBA history to allow 12 or more made 3's per game and 1,000 for the season. At their current rate, Sacramento will allow 1,009 made 3's this season.

WIN NO. 50

A victory tonight for Boston would give them back-to-back seasons of 50 or more wins, for the first time since 2010-2011. Those two seasons were at the back end of a four-year run in which Boston won at least 50 games.
