New Celtics big man Vincent Poirier says Boston ‘plays like European teams’

Vincent Poirier and the Boston Celtics are a match made in basketball heaven. … Well, at least according to the Frenchman himself.
In an interview with Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe, Poirier revealed that he sees plenty of similarities between the Celtics’ playing style and European basketball. In fact, he even went on to say that Boston “plays like European teams.”
With that said, however, Poirier believes the Celtics are the “perfect team” for him.
“The way they play basketball, they’re one of the team that plays like European teams,” Poirier said. “They play a lot of pick-and-roll. Their coach is really smart. So it’s kind of like playing overseas. And they play to win. That’s what I want. I want to win. So it makes a good, good fit.”
Poirier signed a two-year deal worth $5.1 million with the Celtics this offseason. Poirier was pleased with the deal and inked it right away. More than the salary though, the 25-year-old big man is happy that he found a team that fits his style.
The wait was definitely worth it.
“It was pretty fast and I was pretty pleased, so I said yes right away,” Poirier added. “It was the best for me. It’s almost the perfect team for me. And I’ve got more confidence. I told a couple people I think this is the best year for me to go to the NBA, because I’ve got 100 percent confidence in myself. I trust my basketball and I think it’s a perfect moment. Last year wasn’t a good moment, but this year is a perfect moment.”
Poirier’s resume includes several years of overseas basketball. Last year, he played 73 games for Baskonia and averaged 10.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.0 blocks in 73 games across the Euroleague and Spanish ACB.
Now, he will join a Celtics squad that is out to prove the critics wrong. Last year was a failed campaign for Boston, with chemistry issues hindering their true potential. 2019-20 can be labeled as the Celtics’ season for redemption.

All NBA teams play a lot of P N R.
NBA teams however play more man to man defense and that is the big difference VP will need to get adjust to.
