Thank God I'm not a gambler. I'd actually have to put my hard-earned money down based upon these idiotic projections and then live with the results.

LA in 2nd place at 5-2? Was that before or after Jordan Hill was diagnosed with a herniated disk in his back? Is that assuming that Howard comes back and fits and performs like he did in Orlando with a different cast and different coaching system? Obviously they're assuming that The Sneaky Little Canadian, who will be 39 come playoffs, doesn't break down over the course of a long, full season. Chicago is favored over the Celtics? Is Derrick Rose getting a bionic knee? Why the assumption that he'll come back his first year as if nothing happened when everybody knows it takes time?

The good news is that we started off at 25-1 and now we're down to 18-1. I should have placed a few bucks on us at 25-1. Better payoff when we shove it up their...whatever.

Miami Heat 11/5

Los Angeles Lakers 5/2

Oklahoma City Thunder 9/2

Chicago Bulls 14/1

Boston Celtics 18/1

San Antonio Spurs 18/1

Los Angeles Clippers 25/1

Bob,
Thanks for the info.
I have a question: what do those numbers mean: probability (5 out of 11 = 0.45) or payoff?
Who sets these lines?

sinus,

This betting line came from Bovado.

I think it means 11/5 means the odds 11-to-5 that they'll win. In other words, 2.2:1. Once again, let me say I'm not the best one to ask since I'm not a gambler.

I kinda like the Celtics being 18:1. There's something about the number 18 that appeals to me...

Funny, at the beginning of September I placed a small bet at the Mirage in Vegas, the odds then were 10-1. I should have waited!! I ripped up a $20.00 ticket a friend had bought me for last year just the other day. I forgot I had it
until they were fighting Miami and all of a sudden I remembered he had bought me one as a gift.

All this odds business means nothing to me, you hardly can retire on a $20
bet!

it could be that if you wager $1.00 and the C's win, you get $18.00. For the Heat, wager $5.00, win $11.00. But then, I wear sandals so I can count to 20.
