Satch Sanders coming to Pittsfield

Satch Sanders is coming to Pittsfield this Thursday night to be the keynote speaker at the Boys and Girls Club. I know two Forum members who will be in attendance, myself and Brandon. I'll have Brandon brush up on his 1960's Celtics history first. This should be good!

Absoultely no one can top Satch as a speaker. It's almost as if he channels Winston Churchill (without the British accent) when he speaks. You guys will have a super time. Please fill us in, and enjoy yourselves.

Satch is the epitome of smooth. As a player, as a speaker, as a dresser - this guy has a style all his own. When I graduated from 5th grade - great family friends took me to dinner at Satch's Place - a now defunct, but really great high end restaurant that Satch owned in Downtown Boston.

He came to the table, said hello, congratulated me for having honor rolls grades and it was a thrill. My first great restaurant and a host that I never will forget.

We had a good time tonight! Satch was in good form and gave a nice talk after the awards. He talked about his life of course, the Celtics, Red, and the importance of doing what is best for the team and not for your own glory.

He talked about not giving in to "pre conceived notions" and related his initial impressions about Frank Ramsey when they first met. Frank being the man from the South with the heavy southern accent and all, yet he and Satch became good friends and remain so to this day.

Brandon (age 13) told him afterwards he really enjoyed watching him in the old days which drew a quizzical look from Satch. Brando and his brother Trevor got his autograph and a picture with Satch which I'll post as soon as Brandon forwards it to me.

I could listen to stories about past Celtics glory, and the team concept they shared, all night.
