The Newest Celtics Fan
It's not fully formal yet, because I'm still saving up money for a proper ring, but Debbie did accept my proposal to wed based on two preconditions:
1. I respect her covenant with God and her Christian faith. That one is easy for me.
2. She becomes a Boston Celtics fan. She said, "Deal." I'm not sure she knows what she's getting herself in for.

Congrats, and well done.
No wonder she said yes, she won on all counts. She gets her soulmate to accept her relationship with God, she gets to become a fan of the greatest basketball franchise in history and she gets you. Every step, an upgrade.
She'd have to be an idiot NOT to say yes.
Well done, my friend, very well done.

Great news, two lucky people. Finding someone to share your life with is so important Worcester.
She is a lucky girl, but, from what I read the luck swings both ways!!!
Congratulations and God Bless the both of you.

Rosalie, well the luck may swing both ways, but I certainly don't!

Congratulations to you both.
That's an interesting compact you're making before tying the knot. There would be fewer divorces if more people went into marriage with an understanding of what's important to each partner. Good for you.

Outside and Cow...
Debbie and I do a lot of talking about what's important. She has a special needs child who requires a good deal of intelligent and loving care...which has done much to bring us together. She thinks basketball will be good for him, and II'm getting ready to domy best Red Auerbach impersonation. I'm rereading Red's classic written with Marty Glickman - Basketball for the Player, the Fan, and the Coach.

Re: The Newest Celtics Fan
W, I enjoyed your phone call immensely, and my wife and I had a very meaningful conversation involving some of the "back story" involving Debbie and you. It's a beautiful story. And she's a handsome women, and you....well you're a really nice guy! All the best to both of you individually and together.
At first, when you said you were re-reading Red's great book, I was a little concerned that Red's brusque manner might not be the right approach in a marriage. But two things made me rethink. First, Red's own marriage lasted what seems an eternity. Second, more than anything else, Red preached teamwork. Teamwork in which all players were assigned roles they were good at. In 54 years of marriage (if you add them both together), I've found that same philosophy is a major part of what makes a good marriage work—along with care, understanding, patience, empathy, support, and many other virtues—not the least of which, of course, is an abiding love.
Sally and I are really excited about seeing the two of you (and Arion) soon. Many happy years together.

Thanks Sam and Sally. As in bball, I think assists and rebounding are a big part of maintaining a good relationship. I look forward to seeing you both in November.

Yes, Worcester, touching is good too. (A little linguistic humor there.)

Hey, W, if you think the big date might be between November 12 and 21, I could bring a jacket with me. Even possibly a tie (ugh).

As much as I'd like that, it won't be till February at the very earliest.
You can still wear a jacket and tie here, though, in November. I told her you were a famous travel guide writer, and the outfit might sell the illusion.

Somehow, I have difficulty imagining Sam showing up looking like Tom Wolfe.
